The BBC Trust has opened a consultation on the BBC's "services for younger audiences." This seems to include BBC Three as well as Radio 1 and 1Xtra radio stations. There are also some questions about the BBC in general, BBC Switch and Bitesize, Blast etc.

it says that responses will be used to decide whether any changes are needed.

The consultation is at www.bbcyoursay.co.uk

My view is that the channel is more miss than hit., but is getting better - Danny Cohen has done a pretty decent job.

I agree there's some very good content on there, but there are times when it almost becomes an E4 copy, such as their rundowns on the worst / best whatever subject on Saturday nights.

Would like to see the return of the prog on extreme phobias ( it was maybe just called that! ) and some new Spendaholics.

Less Two Pints would be good also IMO.

The idea of extending BBC3's hours needs to be scrapped completely - they already struggle to fill the pre-9pm slots, never mind anything before 7pm.

I think though after a shaky start Switch seems to have found it's feet a bit.

perhaps Switch could be "housed" on BBC Three if it started earlier? It doesn't really work as a zone on BBC Two. Would need more money of course...

Maybe Switch programmes could just be aired on BBC3, without the need for the patronising branding that also leads to exclude other people who may want to watch/listen

the branding is targeted at young-mid teens - quite a niche age group that don't favour the BBC that much. So will always alienate the majority in seeking to provide something for a minority. Don't know if that approach is right or wrong - maybe putting the money into family and mainstream content on BBC One would do a more effective job.

I believe that is the idea, the switch brand would be absorbed into BBC three with the channel starting earlier and airing programmes for a teenage audience.

Err..
Bring back the blobs..

Run programming in 2 blocks per week night. First run 7-11pm, then repeat that block wholesale again between 11pm - 3am.
On the weekend, films, specials and best of's the week...

This will reduce the amount of repeats seen in peak time hours at a stroke... and put first run commissions at the heart of the weekday schedule.

Commission a satirical show (a bit like the RDA on the old BBC Choice)..

Put Family Guy on a 9pm. I'm asleep by 11pm usually!

Or, as an even better idea, why not axe Family Guy? It's crap.

Because it gets high ratings (certainly for the time its' on, and arguably high for BBC3 overall - the Wed and Sun 11pm episodes were #8 and #9 for the week in the BBC3 BARB chart for week ending 21st of September, four of the places above it were taken up by Eastenders repeats, and that's not an uncommon occurence - the previous week, three eps were in the top 10 @ #6, #7 and #10, with the two higher-placed episodes beating one of the Eastenders' repeats) and dominates the upper reaches of the BBC3 Audience appreciation Index chart.
