Freaky Eaters better be returning too!

I always loved how Harry Hill mercifully mocked it on TV Burp:

A favourite of Paxman too as he brought it up in a particularly entertainment interview with then BBC chair Michael Lyons on some of the “distinctive” programmes BBC Three produced.

Some of Paxman’s other favourites included “My Man Boobs and Me” and “Help Me Anthea I’m Infested”

Nothing beats Emily Maitlis on Newsnight quoting Frankie Boyle's Mock the Week joke about the Queen 'I'm now so old, my pussy is haunted' to the BBC DG at the time Mark Thompson.

Ash101 is right, it went back to BBC Three for one final series at the end of 2015/start of 2016 before BBC Three closed and it moved to Sky One.

The BBC1 and BBC3 series of Don't Tell The Bride were a bit different, as on BBC1 they had older couples, and the idea was that it would co-exist with the BBC3 version which only featured young people. However this just ended up totally confusing everyone and when it continued on BBC3 everyone just said "Eh, isn't this on BBC1 now?". It flopped on BBC1, though, so the "grown-up" version didn't continue after that one series.

This is just old men yelling at clouds though and making themselves sound like arrogant twats in the process.

Some of BBC Three's output was absolutely rubbish in many people's opinions. Even some of the shows which weren't rubbish were hardly distinctive either and could have easily slotted into the schedules of many other channels.

The age and gender of the people who believe that is not relevant

It is relevant because they're not the people the channel is aimed at. What channel doesn't have it's share of rubbish output? It was that snobby "this doesn't appeal to me therefore it shouldn't exist" attitude which surrounded the channel that led to the BBC throwing the audience under the bus. And look what happened when all the stuff Harry Hill and Jeremy Paxman didn't approve of went out the window...

I remember John Humphrys being a hypocrite when he was complaining in the papers about the BBC's entertainment output despite that the fact he presented Mastermind which is an entertainment programme.

Why does that make them arrogant wankers? And why do age and gender determine whether a viewpoint is reasoned or valid?

Surely you can make your argument in a more reasoned way.

On a tangentially related note... a new trailer for the Season 8 Blu-ray of Doctor Who released today:

Rather fortuitous timing, as one of the stories just so happens to feature a BBC3. The original, you might say. Very Happy

Or even the 1965 satirical version!

Don't forget when it went online the channel's target audience and programming style completely changed. I bet this will remain for the relaunch.

It was a massive flop and the saddest part is that (imo) this has hurt the channel.

I don't know how people (on either side of the BBC Three debate) such as yourself can come to a clear-cut conclusion about whether the online-first move was a 'success' or not when the truth is a lot more complicated than that. For example, it has clearly resulted on one hand in less young people engaging with linear BBC TV content (something which this decision/backflip is explicitly trying to change). However, describing BBC Three's past few years as a "massive flop" ignores how the service becoming a channel again and its budget being doubled is partly the result of how it's commissioned numerous shows which have been hugely successful on BBC One and/or iPlayer.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I disagree with the decision, and in fact I think BBC4 should've gone too. I think the BBC should've focused on providing fewer, higher quality programming on the two channels (BBC1 and BBC2) it has had for half a century or so. Less is more.

I can understand where you're coming from with that view. However, I think all reducing BBC TV's output to 2 main channels would do is cause a big debate about whether the licence fee is 'value for money' - particularly when opponents will point at how the other networks have multiple channels
