Another look at the CBBC dog on BBC Three...

What Pete Burns or the 60 Seconds presenter? Very Happy

Quite a pretty lady I must say, however I think BBC Three lost something when Christoper Price died.

BBC Three is pointless and should be shut down and the money plowed into BBC1 & 2. They should do the same to BBC Four. Their shows end up on the main channels anyway.

I'm sure they're lovely people, but I don't rate the new BBC3 news presenters. I didn't 'take-in' a word Andy said because i was so busy thinking about how badly he said it, and Tamsin/Tasmin is shockingly ... well just shocking!

The BBC has plenty of people who CAN present and are still target audience. Where did these two come from?

You can look at this relaunch in a similar way. It was doing the job before, so why change it.

I can understand that the channel was getting a bit stale, and new programming, and a tweak to the brand was needed, but why did they need to totally do away with the blobs, and everything that was good with the channel, the great continuity and the 60 seconds presenters, who gave the channel more of a face than any new people could.

Surely by trying to make yourself seem cool does away with any of that work?

I do think that the previous presenters were better. The BBC three relaunch reminds me of an embarrassingly untendy dad trying to be cool and failing.

It really does need changing, this is how i see it

BBC 1 General
BBC 2 Comedy/entertainment/factual
BBC 3 Comedy/entertainment(Since re-brand, multi-platform crap)
BBC 4 Factual

So really BBC 3 & 4 are just a split version of BBC 2

Why did they change the 60 Seconds presenters? Were the old ones not doing a good job? No, they were doing a great job! So why change them? Had they been there too long? Probably in the eyes of the controller of BBC Three, but not in anyone else's.

That's pretty much always been the case and BBC2 has suffered as a result, especially when you add in the fact that everytime they get a hit of their own BBC1 nick it, meaning BBC2 are often left with BBC1's scheduling problems.

It's a good argument for getting rid of BBC3 & 4.

Arguments for keeping them would be that they are specialist channels for demographics that are better served as a result, and also that they give a platform for the sorts of programmes that otherwise might not get aired.

However, the successes then usually end up on an analogue BBC channel anyway...So the only channel that really doesn't need to worry about having its gems stolen is BBC1, at the top of the ladder with nothing above it to swipe its best output!

Andy is a very experienced radio broadcaster - he does 5 Live and Newsbeat, Radio 4 and Final Score.

Not everything is swiped from 4 though, and if it is it might get shown at a much later time: the excellent Atom series with Jim Al-Khalili (sp?) was only shown a months later on BBC2, and only after Newsnight .

I think BBC3 and BBC4 should remain, but BBC3 needs to become a much better channel than the excrement that it is now.

As I've said before BBC3 would become a much better channel if wasn't restricted to showing so many BBC3 programmes.

At the moment something like 80% of content has to be BBC3 commissions, even if it is Two Pints or Little Britain repeated for the millionth time.

It would be much better where repeats are concerned that BBC3 would be allowed more "narrative repeats" of programming from BBC1 and BBC2 - for example this week we have That Mitchell and Webb Look from BBC2 and Hotel Babylon from BBC1, both of which could appeal to the BBC3 audience - and would be providing a much better service than said Little Britain and Two Pints repeats - with a lower original programme quota only applying to programmes on their first airing.
