i loved the blobs and although they were around 5 years old they still had appeal. just a bit of a pointless rebrand imo.
the new rebrand just seems a bit of a mish-match and trying 2 hard to be 'cool' surley they could have just updated the blobs taken them out of their 'three' enviroment. i was ust wondering weather there is any blobs merchandise?
Oh dear.. a complete waste of money and resources in my opinion... and on the BBC iPlayer where they have boxed the new BBC Three logo -it's even worse that the onscreen BBC Three logo
I watch tons of BBC output on iPlayer. Not the same as simul-casting on the net but the principle is the same.
Not that I'm defending BBC Three's output, but if you take me as "Joe Public" I am finding new ways to watch BBC programming, where I didn't even a year ago.
I've watched quite alot on iPlayer (and 4OD) too, more than I expected I would. However, I wouldn't choose to watch something online if it was being broadcast at the same time on TV. If someone has the ability to watch it online then it's odds on certainty they have at least freeview to be able to watch the TV broadcast. I think for that reason the numbers watching simulcasts on t'internet will be rather low and won't affect the overall ratings very much.
I agree - I have used the C4 simulcast a couple of times when I had a dodgy Freeview reception and lost it completely, but if you have the option surely you watch on TV. I've used 4oD, the iPlayer and even itv.com too to catch up on things I missed, but again the first option is still to record it yourself so you can watch it on TV.
I prefer to watch on tv too but have used iPlayer and 4od loads recently - as I've figured out how to play dowanloaded files on the tv screen via my Xbox 360

There's a tribute to the Blobs on the BBC Three video wall - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/ and choose 'Bye Bye, Blobs' .
The blobs were unique, I've given it a few days, and I still don't see why they had to get rid of the blobs.
Surely if they wanted this viewer continuity they could have just done it with sound bites put into the blob's mouths.
The idents/animations/etc. do look good, but they're a bit pointless.
The blobs did grow a little stale as they've been the same for five year. But why not put them into what is this new 'three' world that's filled with colour and a new logo, taking the old into the new.
Though the BBC did do the same with CBBC's bugs (though you could say that they still live on through CBeebies).
After weeks of being kept in suspense about when the blobs would be going, at last BBC Three has finally launched the new presentation package.
I set my HDD/DVD recorder to record every programme junction on the night of 12 February. This evening I've scanend through what I've got.
There's only three proper idents:
the balloon
the tree branch
the street (with fire extinguisher in the background, and pink liquid in the road)
They also have the now/next/later board. That too is an attractive alternative.
Why have they got so many in vision continuity clips? They're all done by members of the public. Novel idea, but not sure I like it. I'd rather dispense with those and have more proper idents.
Now you have the situation where a programme can be preceeded by a proper BBC Three ident, a BBC Three now/next/later board or a BBC Three in vision continuity clip.
Whilst fast forwarding through my recorded footage, I've also come across BBC Three's new ECPs. Although I've yet to watch them properly, i.e. normal playback in full screen, I've already managed to spot some differences in the frame area between ECPs. I'll have a more thorough look tomorrow.
[Mod Edit: Please use "BBC" using any other code or reference is just asking for un-necessary discussion, by all means use it at home, just not here.

We know.

Fascinating.

Now you have the situation where a programme can be preceeded by a proper B3 ident, a B3 now/next/later board or a B3 in vision continuity clip.
