Daily Mail are a bunch of moany, bigoted c*nts.

I agree, although I find it amusing the way they twist figures around to suit their purpose.

Cost of new idents is £1 per viewer.

Mmmm, that would be asuming they were paid for in one day! However, since the idents will last for a while (let's say 3 years) and used every day - even without any increase in audience that equates to less than £0.001p per viewer!

Not quite the same headline is it?

I hate to sound like an apologist for the Daily Mail, but it does seem reasonable to quote a price in terms of the one-off upfront cost, rather than the cost per day based on projected lifespan as you are suggesting.

If someone asks you what your kettle cost (to take an example of something in everyday use) do you say "15 quid" or "0.8p per day assuming it lasts five years"?

If you're thorough and accurate you say both.

If you're the Mail you scream £29.99.

You're going to the wrong kettle shops. That's terribly expensive for a kettle!
