To make it as low profile as possible?
Temporary thread for this topic, as I'm sure we all hope the main site is up and running by next week.
Was any explanation ever provided as to why they picked a Monday night/Tuesday morning for the closure of BBC Three? It seems a rather random choice.

And any news on when CBBC extends it's hours through to 9pm?
Still find it absolutely shocking the channel is being closed next week without any plan publicly announced for what will happen to it's bandwidth.
Very little "BBC3" content in the schedules the week after it closes - Cuckoo gets a BBC1 airing a week after debuting on the iPlayer (I guess they'll make the next episode available after the TV airing), while Life and Death Row gets a repeat run on Tuesday nights. Well played to the BBC3 scheduler who scheduled that series in the dying days of the channel.
Nothing on BBC2 from what I can see - they seemed to be testing the water last year for a Sunday night block of shows but no evidence of that so far.

It wouldn't surprise me if that happens, and might explain rubbish features such as the daily dump, I mean daily drop. Also worth noting the article only predicts 2 hours worth of long-form content to be shown on BBC One/Two each week.

But they are only likely to be implemented if the online BBC Three fails to get "sufficient traction", they said.

The magazine quotes BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh as saying he is unaware of such a plan but "there are a lot of conversations going on".
Mr Kavanagh said BBC Three and Radio 1 were "talking to the same audiences on different things" and already collaborate.
But he added BBC Three is "a really powerful youth brand with 13 years heritage and I wouldn't see the logic in winding down something that has that audience, and has that badge of quality, and has that heritage".

can someone enlighten me - when BBC Three moves on line - will it still be a streamable linear type channel with a schedule or will shows just be released on IPlayer sporadically?

There is no linear channel. It's just BBC Three-branded shows being put on the iPlayer that would've otherwise been shown on the BBC Three channel.

It seems like BBC Three is very proud of its latest commission. From Tuesday, that's all it seems to be showing. An interesting programme called "BBC Three has moved online," a dystopian look at an alternate future where the popular linear channel ceases to exist, but tries to manipulate people into thinking it's still alive.
Joking aside, the description simply tells people to go to bbc.co.uk/bbcthree. I hadn't realised that this takes people straight to the Daily Drop. I hope that changes once the channel dies because sending people to that piece of s**t when they're in a midst of confused panic as to where their favourite channel has gone is simply torturous.
