If it's being delayed, it's more likely the BBC Trust has plans to approve the move to online, so management decided to move it in order to prepare everything properly.

Problem is that allowing it to limp on in its current form is actually brand damaging.

It's already being damaged by the BBC's decision to move it's core shows to other channels before the BBC Trust has even made a decision.

OK, if they're not closing until next year now, why have the suddenly decided to move Family Guy to BBC2? It doesn't make any sense considering that the Griffins are moving to ITV later in the year anyway.

Perhaps they moved it because they expected to be told that the channel was closing this year and didn't want to start the series on 3 and then have to move it to 2 part way through. Only, now that 3's life has been extended a bit, will they reverse this decision and put the final new season they have the rights to back on 3 for one last hurrah?

I'd imagine they are trying to get BBC Three's viewers "used" to BBC Two, and watching it before the closure.

Confirmation of the delay on http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-32427973.

It's always possible though that CBBC might get it's hours extended before BBC Three moves fully online though.

Yes - and BBC One+1 is not using BBC Three broadcast capacity - so technically. that could also go ahead earlier. (CBBC running longer would require BBC Three to run shorter though - which may require another Trust decision)

The original reasoning of moving BBC Three online because of digital consumption trends still baffles me, especially as creating a BBC One+1 flies in the face of this logic.

Streaming is more widespread with BBC Three's demographic than BBC One's, generally, older audience.

While true, there are still issues among the audience where they simply don't have the capacity to stream BBC Three output on iPlayer, either through cost or slow broadband speed.

So double the amount of content available for that demographic and remove the (half) channel away which serves the younger demographic?
