What's interesting is that this year is the first ever year that it's not starting at 7pm. They've left The One Show on this year with it starting at 7.30pm tonight.

At 7pm I turned on my TV expecting Children In Need to start, and was mystified at seeing almost 30 minutes countdown to Children In Need in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

So I looked at Radio Times online, and found that the schedule is
7:00 to 7:30pm The One Show
7:30 to 10:00pm Children In Need

That's the first time I've known CIN start at 7:30pm. I think every year 1980 to 2010 it started at 7pm. Any reason for the later start time?

Mind you, there's quite a bit on The One Show about CIN, so that's to all intents and purposes part of CIN. Effectively it has still started at 7pm disguised as The One Show for the first half hour. If that's what they wanted to do, they'd might as well have started CIN properly at 7pm.

Where was that shopping mall where they were playing Sailors Hornpipe, which gradually got quicker and quicker, just now?

I noticed they that took place in the central atrium by the up and down roller coasters.

So the new layout has been hacked to pieces to make the same layout as previous years.

A shame really - was nice to see a change last year with the balcony.

Ah good, so your eyes work then.

By the way, those roller coaster are actually called escalators. You might want to to jot that down.

Or visit Thorpe Park. Either way is good.

Not that keen on Alesha Dixon as Sir Terry's co-presenter. Doesn't seem to work that well, with her motioning to out-of-view screens and making jokes that only Sir Terry could pull off... Will Fearn replace her later on?

The shopping centre was the Trafford Centre in Manchester. There is a great deal on a wrist band that lets you ride the coasters and lifts all day.

Yes I know those "roller coasters" in that shopping mall were escalators, but ...

Check out this, this and this for other rides that could be classed as roller coasters.

ps The German translation of escalator is Rolltreppe , so another reason to say an escalator is a roller coaster.

Ah, thank you - yes, yes I will check that out.

But later. I'm polishing my totaliser for now.

Ha Ha! Laughing It would have been impossible for anyone to visit Thorpe Park today (Friday 18 November 2011) as it's now closed for the winter.

The use of "today" within the context of that blog report referred to Friday 30 September 2011, which was my 40th birthday.

Anyhow let's get back on the rails, to discussing Children In Need. It's the regional split now. Where I'm watching tonight I'm getting the BBC South regional splits.

What times are the regional opts tonight?

Right now. God I wish I was in the North West. This and Midlands Today are dire in comparison!
