I was under the impression, reading elsewhere, Liza Goddard(Colin Baker's ex wife referred to above) was friends with Grade, nothing else.

Liza also appears to have got over the situation, unlike her friend & ex husband it appears, as she & Colin were on tour together in a play recently ISTR.

Ah OK - read that a long time ago, must have got some of the details mixed up!

Found a bit more on it here: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1646688

I don't think they would dare repeat it, post Saville, with it's tales of sex in BBC dressing rooms.

Over on another fourm, Richard Marsen who produced and directed it said that It was due for a repeat on BBC Two at Christmas last year, then it was pulled at short notice, due to cold feet of the outfall from SJS and the unrelated tales of (consentual, in all cases give the lightheared tone of all the divuldged the stories) adult pursuits in the dressing rooms..

That could explain the unspooling of the Top Gear Bond 50th Anniversary cars special on Christmas Night. OK it provided a blokey alternative to Strictly, but at the time I thought it a rather strange time to repeat that special - but now putting two and two together...

Wasn't there a cleaner, pre-watershed version without all the sexual stuff?

Incidently another documentary that I suspect will never be seen because of Savile is BBC4's programme on the Intercity train.... a big chunk of it being about the ad campaign he fronted.

It's been pointed out on Twitter that The One Show brought together (although not on screen) Michael Grade and Colin Baker. Grade renewed Doctor Who in 1986 on the condition that Baker was fired (and Grade was married to Baker's ex-wife at that point which adds another dimension).

Though Chris Evans did interview Lord Grade wearing Colin Baker's Doctor Who coat (!)

Yes, considering the calibre of guests Chris Hollins was a very odd addition to the line up. And although very good value considering his TV career peaked with Pets Wins Prizes Danny Baker was an odd choice too .

Presumably because he is primarily a writer and wrote for most of the biggest names in Television/comedy during the 80's and 90's.

Yes, although I don't think much of that was for BBC programmes, let alone those at TV Centre. To me he's more associated with the South Bank. Although he did present lots of radio shows from TV Centre

Arguably Greg Dyke's decision to move News out to BH was, although a perfectly sensible decision, the beginning of the end for TV Centre

Yes, although he was a great supporter of bringing back programmes to TV Centre (and other BBC facilities) from places like Teddington.

Wasn't the Salford move announced during his tenure too?

It would be interesting if it was because I remember it said in his autobiography that Blue Peter was originally planned to move to Granada in 2000 but he put a stop to it as there were enough studios spare at Television Centre for it and it would have been a waste of money. Oh how times change!

I think there was definitely scope for another programme looking at particularly brilliant moments of shows from TVC, rather than just quick clips during a montage.

That's basically what Tales of Television Centre was, and I'm surprised that it didn't get a repeat this week, especially since it's been nearly a year since it was first shown.

I still have 'Tales of TVC' on my Sky+ box, so I watched that again. It was a better tribute programme, IMO.

Tales of TVC felt very Blue Peter heavy to me. Possibly not a surprise given who made it.

Although to be fair, Blue Peter was a programme that was around for the duration of TVC's existance so it was appropriate.

Yes and probably the programme most associated with it. When I was a kid barely a week went by when they didn't have something that was shot around the building, from the garden and the car park outside, to the ramp and road leading up to the studio doors.

Does anyone who has seen both versions think an acceptable edit could be performed mixing both versions to provide a new acceptable version for future repeats?

It's nice that Eurovision.tv are recognising the closure of TVC, with a look back at the Eurovision Song Contest 1963.
