No, TC1
You are right that it wasn't in Maidstone - and it looked MUCH better as a result.
However it wasn't in TC1, it was in TC8 this year.
Both are HD capable studios - and the show was HD this year.
(This year's show was directed by Nikki Parsons, who usually does Strictly and most of the Maria/Joseph shows these days, now that the original Strictly director also does DWTS in the US - though he was back doing The One and Only)

Just wondering, where was the One and Only made?

Pretty sure it was TVC and in TC1 - though I may be wrong.

TC8? I thought the set looked a little less 'roomy' than usual.
What was jamming up TC3 which is the usual studio for music performance.
Was it another production, or is that one closed for lung destroying dust removal?

TC3 is SD only - so unless you park an HD scanner in the ring road it won't be used for HD shows...
Given that the show is only ever live vocals and a backing track - with no live instrumental (as is also the case at Eurovision since the demise of the orchestra in 1999) I doubt TC8 found it that taxing, though the set may have been a squeeze (and it appeared it was a struggle to not cross shot on occasions)

Well - it was formally announced today that :
BBC Studios remains IN HOUSE as a commercial business owned by the BBC - with a 3rd studio already being converted to HD.
BBC Outside Broadcasts have SIS as their preferred bidder for a sale - moving the OB fleet and staff to non-BBC ownership.
BBC Post Production still in negotiations - either sold or retained in house TBA.
What this means long-term for TVC - who knows? Wonder how the pensions, asbestos liability and redundancy for studios will stack up against a 2011/12 sale of the TVC site?

Thanks for this info Noggin (and thanks for answering my Eurovision studio question earlier this week)
I'm glad common sense has broken out in this sell off issue. Whilst I'm sad BBC OB's will have to be repainted in SIS livery (and on a tangent, does this include the BBC News uplink units? If so this now means SIS have the monopoly for live news broadcasts in the UK, as SIS provide uplink units for ITN and Sky!) There nothing beats going to an event and seeing the BBC blue and white trucks there. Now, that's gone.
However, it would totaly crazy for the national television broadcaster not to be able to make programmes in studios that they own on site.

BBC News or the regions/nations have never been a part of BBC Resources, I wouldn't have thought that would change

Not strictly accurate.
Before BBC Resources was a PLC both News Resources and N&R Resources (particularly the network studios in Birmingham and Manchester - though I think Bristol had shut by the point that the Resources brand existed) were part of the wider BBC Resources operation - even the English regional resource operations were part of BBC Resources...
There were also independent OB operations in Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham - however both Bristol and Birmingham had shut by the mid 90s - and Manchester was merged into London when it became part of BBC Resources - though there is (or was) an OB base in Manchester.
At one point News Resources (particularly the MFA) was the biggest (only?) profit generator in the business I believe... The Post Production and Graphic Design bit of Resources included News Graphics I believe.
However, once BBC Resources was spun out as a wholly owned PLC, News Resources shifted out of the operation and became a separate operation, which wasn't allowed to directly compete with Resources PLC, though it was allowed to trade on the margins. (Hence Celebdaq, made by BBC Entertainment came from the BBC Three News studio, BBC News Graphics doing various design jobs for shows like Watchdog, Crimewatch etc.) Similarly the resource operations in N&R were spun away - though the OB operations retained close links with BBC Resources (with BBC Scotland and Northern Ireland hiring BBC Resources OB trucks on long term agreements for example)
News Resources continued as a separate operation for a while, but was then folded into BBC News proper, with studio crew being managed by the same team who manage journalists etc.
