News 24 and World merged and went from Studio A

You have to wonder what kind of set this would end up being presented from, presumably whatever was standing in Studio A at the time TC went down?

I've still got a copy of the 1998 evac plans. The plan then was:

BBC One pres to come from Gallery-C and VT-B
BBC Two pres to come from the Midlands Today Pres Gallery and VT-F
BBC World pres to come from Edit C and VT-D
Domestic News was to set up in Studio-B (the Midlands Today studio)
BBC World News was to set up in Studio-A and VT-A
News 24 was to collapse into BBC World.
Digital channels would simulcast the analogue counterparts, BBC Choice would run on automation from TVC until it ran out of stuff!

This was before Pebble Mill was widescreen capable IIRC, and these were plans for analoge sustaining feeds only. They didn't even have many DigiBeta decks, so there's a note on the plans that says more are being installed, along with some ARCs, to reflect the increasing amount of widescreen material that BBC One and Two were showing. I can't remember where the announcers went, I think there were some voiceover booths in Post Production at the mill that were used. Weather I think relocated to the pres (CSO) studio. I can't imagine what Midlands Today would have made of a load of network news bods turning up and taking over their newsroom. I also have no idea what set BBC World would have used in Studio-A. It won't have looked all that good from Style Challenge's catwalk ...

Once Studio-A, Gallery-A and Gallery-C closed, the plans were revised again so that almost all of the presentation operation moved to edit and VT suites. News no longer went to Birmingham but instead provided a single rolling news service to BBC News 24 and World. Weather still used Birmingham pres though.

This was of course kept under wraps at the time, but given that none of these places exist anymore I think it's probably ok to post this!

That was the case with all the channels - as many VT machines as possible were loaded up and the computers left to get on with it

No idea, but that is one of the advantages of automation
