London is a massive moving oven with seven million little pieces of bread burning to a crisp. I;m one of those pieces of bread. Me and my cat are in my flat cooking away and rubbing ice cubes into one another. It's a beautiful picture.
I'm going to work in one hour to really enjoy this hell. Working in a bar for 5.10 an hour in this weather is not funny. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

£5.10 is 90p more than I get Rolling Eyes

I've got to go to work at 6pm until I finish at 1.30am (the bar actually shuts at midnight, but it takes 90 minutes to clean up).

Then I've got to be back in work at 10am tomorrow. Confused

When BBC Summer was launched, a lot of people here sneered at the BBC promoting summer!

One of the thoughts that crossed my mind was, "What if it rains all summer!? There's the BBC with it's nice trails of people walking through fields and sand dunes, and it's p***ing down!"

But it's been a fantastic summer - wall to wall sunshine mostly! Reminds me of 1976 when I was a (very young!) kid.

As a result, the BBC Summer trails have - in my opinion - really worked.

How did they know!!!?

How has it worked ? Are we to thank the BBC for our summer now ? All it has meant is that more people are outside and not sat in front of the telly Rolling Eyes

As BBC Summer is the branding for a whole range of live events, it's worked in all sorts of ways. People outside at the events have been aware of the BBC, even though they're not watching the TV or listening to the radio; people who weren't able to get there have been able to see the coverage; and the brand has tapped into the feel-good summer mood. And that's before we get to the BBC Summer door mats seen in BBC buildings!

Do I detect a little bit of "bet hedging" with BBC Summer doormats?

Surely if the Beeb were THAT confident of a good summer, they'd never have produced a product to wipe wet feet on!

Broadcasting House on Radio 4 this morning had a piece on BBC Summer. Eddie Mair interviewed the weatherman, Philip Avery, about which other seasons would be good for the BBC to get the rights for, and they even had a statement from the BBC press office saying they were in negotiations about other seasons!

I wonder if any of the production team reads this forum?

This hot weather is horrible!!!! I passed out yesterday, and the heat makes me feel ill all the time!!

Thank heavens I'm off to florida in September. Its cooler there, plus its the wet season. And with Air-COn a standard everywhere its gonna be good!!!!

Not wanting to scare you or anything, but September is also hurricane season over there! I was out there a few years ago and nearly got caught in hurricane Floyd. Fortunately it changed direction and headed north before it hit Florida - but still bloody scary at the time!

Well it's nice to know that the BBC now own Summer. Why on Earth everything needs to be branded nowadays is beyond me. According to the MediaGuardian there is fierce competition between the BBC, ITV and SKY who are all bidding for the official rights to the winter.

The MeediaGrauniad report actually stated that 'the BCB, IVT and Syk are biding for the writs to Wirten.'

However, official Government sources have informed us that Offseason - the new regulatory body overseeing the process has split the franchise into Yuletide, Snowy (sub-sections: Beautiful snowy Countryside and Whoops! The Country (or at least the South East) Has Ground To A Halt Again) and Bloody Awful Weather.
Stringent measures will be enforced to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of the new Winter franchises to the BBC (unless it upsets Alistair Campbell again).

Apparently 'seven network Australia' are desperately bidding for the rights to next year's (BBC) Summer, to avoid them the same embarrassment they had this year - the location of flagship soap Home and Away had to be renamed "BBC Summer Bay."

There are also concerns in Manchester regarding the future of the "Winter Hill" transmitter, which may have to change it's name shortly.

Breaking News from Sky:
The Government is in turmoil over how to allocate the rights (through Offseason) to Spring - apparently there have been concerns that some producers of metal objects are refusing to producing ITV Springs if that broadcaster is chosen. I gather that their concern stems partly from worries over dual-branding of ITV Springs at certain times of the day and the fact that they won't be available in Northern Ireland or Scotland.
