I missed this until it was pointed out to me on Twitter (including nwtv2003 from here) - BBC Studios launched on Friday. Programmes that have been seen with the new credit so far are The One Show on Friday and Points of View from earlier today. EastEnders still had the BBC Drama Production credit as of Friday.

What is the point of these stupid vanity labels?

What is the point of these stupid vanity labels?

The idea is that it will be a wholly owned subsidiary of the BBC so they can produce programmes for other broadcasters. It's more than just a label

Pretty similar to ITV Studios then?
It's never occurred to me before that I haven't seen new BBC made programmes for first showing outside of the BBC except for those co-production programmes that have thousands of logos on the endcaps.

Is there a reason why the BBC couldn't do this make stuff for other broadcasters before, or is it some historical "made by the BBC for the BBC" type arrangement?

At least it tells you what they actually are unlike BBC Worldwide.

They've made lots of stuff for various UKTV channels, but I guess that doesn't count.

UKTV is part owned by the BBC through BBC Worldwide.

It's because they can't sell their services to commercial customers. It's not the first time it's happened, several other departments have been spun off from the main BBC. Hence programmes for other channels being made at studios run by BBC Studios & Post Production. BBC Broadcast (AKA Red Bee, now Ericsson) and BBC Technology (now Atos) underwent the same process but we're sold off

And BBC Studios and Post Production is now BBC Studioworks. I assumed they'd be choosing a name that didn't have the word 'studio' in it

^At least they gave it a unique logo, rather than using Gill Sans like BBC Studios.
