I take it that you don't like Jackie Bird?

I like her as an presenter BTW. But i'm just wondering, how come u don't like her?Very Happy

When I say Jackie 'the' Bird, it is a term of affection (my mates and I think it would be funny if they announced her like that!). She's a lovely lass and I dropped her an email telling her how much I like her on the show. I'm sure they all appreciate messages like that.

She send me a photo out of kindness and I certainly wont be putting it on a dartboard!

If anyone's interested, I have a full list of BBC regional addresses in my cupboard. But I'd rather not hunt it down and type it up if no-one reads it - so if you want to know, tell me!

I believe you'll be able to add to this list :

BBC North sub-opt (Hull studio, Leeds gallery) out of Look North (Leeds) starting in October?

Also the BBC retains Network production studios at the BBC Elstree centre (though BBC South East have moved out to Marylebone / Tunbridge Wells)

Historically there were also studio facilities at BBC Aberdeen, BBC Bangor and BBC Edinburgh. I also understand that there was a TV studio at Bush House for a while (which was bizarrely used to make Welsh language programmes!)

Also it is worth noting that many BBC regions have TWO names - one for regional new, one for network production. The regional name describes the area the programme is broadcast to, the Network name describes the centre the programme is broadcast from. However these rules, whilst still current, were devised in the early 90s and are less rigidly applied now:

Listing Network name first :

BBC Southampton : BBC South

BBC Manchester : BBC North West
BBC Birmingham : BBC Midlands
BBC Bristol : BBC West

BBC Norwich : BBC East
BBC Plymouth : BBC South West
BBC Elstree : BBC South East (as was)
BBC Leeds : BBC North
BBC Newcastle : BBC North East and Cumbria
BBC Southampton : BBC South
BBC Nottingham : BBC East Midlands

BBC East and BBC North both sold regional programmes to Network in the 90s, and delivered them with BBC Norwich and BBC Leeds end copyrights!

For a long time it was 'BBC Pebble Mill' was the network production copyright from BBC Midlands (watch end credits of Telly Addicts on Challenge TV for proof).

It was a case of them being TOO specific... Places swallow each other up over time. For example the area that is truly 'London' is only something silly like 3km squared! What we call 'London' (which we really ought to call 'Greater London') is the result of London 'swallowing up' surrounding places. So, in some ways we may think of Westminster (to pick a random example) as a place in it's own right, but more often we'd think of it as a 'sub-area' of London, so to speak.

This sort of thing can be applied anywhere, not just London. So, in the same way, Edgbaston would once have been much more strongly distingushed from Birmingham than now. But, by going further back in history, you can then trace Edgbaston to lots of truly separate places. And the particlar bit of Edgbaston that BBC Midlands is in was historically 'Pebble Mill', hence the BBC using that name (despite the fact that the name is a sub-area of a sub-area of B'ham!)

But I'm sure some other BBC regional buildings must not be in what is absolutely truly the town/city centre of wherever, but they resolve to not get too specific with the name. So, I always hated BBC Midlands for doing things differently. Finally, with the change of BBC logo in 1997, they renamed as BBC Birmingham (probably more to do with the eventual move to The Mailbox than anything else). Thank goodness!

I actually passed the BBC Radio Merseyside building this morning on Paradise Street in Liverpool, and I noticed (as mentioned in another thread) that above the door it had the current logo
[ B ][ B ][ C ] RADIO MERSEYSIDE, yet just above, on the glass panels it had the old logo, B B C

It looks a bit stupid!

BBC Wiltshire Sounds address in swindon is
Broadcasting House 56-58, Prospect Place
Swindon Wiltshire SN1 3RW

Also the South Today (Oxford opt out) seams to forget sometimes that it covers swindon and the surounding areas.
