I also noticed that the idents were going out silent earlier on, but surely the audio is on the ident already, so are they just playing them out muted?

Yes the audio is recorded onto the clip of the ident. However it's routed in different ways (e.g. via the announcer's audio mixer) depending on whether the announcements are live or automated, and the person running the channel may not have realised they had to change the routing, or may not know how to.

I don't think the 1700 programme is being simulcast. It seems to be UK centric.

It is live - bit like that irritating cat thing on Live and Kicking in the 90s.

As explained to me by Aston a while back, Nelly Nut is directed separately as it has it's own computer software, it is a single source on the vision mixer in TC2. All the bits where she talks to callers are live - and other bits are usually pre-recorded at some point during the day.

That was a while ago now, Nelly got her own studio when Newsround and the CBBC Channel moved out of TC2 last summer.

You're right about it being UK centric. I guess this is a chance for International viewers to watch BBC News 24. Although Stephen Cole is mainly a BBC World presenter.

BBC One

CBBC One Showing Newsround Extra (recorded) instead of usual live Newsround.

BBC What's On website says now should be a regular NR - not extra.

We might have silent idents, but the trails are still playing out in their bunches as usual. Not even a strike, a war or a papal death can cripple them; what does need to happen, Armegeddon?

And only one "because of industrial action..." announcement so far on BBC1 (lunchtime).

Oooh, well BBC Scotland's managing to get regional trails and announcements on air now on BBC ONE. This follows a day of network only announcements.
