Have the BBC Sports Personality of the Year nominees been announced yet? It's just that I've been seeing promos on BBC Scotland for viewers to vote for the 'BBC Scotland Sports Personality of the Year'.

Is this a way around the anti-English sentiment of the past, where it was rumoured there were campaigns to delibrately vote against the likely English winners (ie. England rugby team etc)? or just a new award, maybe?

Each region has it's own Sports Personality. I'd be suprised if Scotland hadn't before, but you never know.

I think Scotland normally has its own event, but also shows the network one, which is normally highly irrelevant to viewers up here. Maybe we're just first off the mark this time round, or maybe they're not even bothering showing the promos for the network event.

Northern Ireland also had a caption for Northern Ireland sports personality, I think it was during Final Score from NI (rather than our local coverage of Ireland v. Romania).

Icidentally, does anyone here know if the rugby next Saturday will be on 301/302 - us in Northern Ireland have a local football match being shown. I get the impression from Radio Times not - there's a sport being shown on one channel, tennis I think, and presumably the football scores and analysis on the other.

In addition to the national version, the nations (and regions) generally have their own.

I know Wales always used to have it sometime in January, but last year it was December.

the regions normally shove it into a friday 6.30 show - the nations can get away with a bit more.

But no - it's nothing new.

Can anyone remember if the Team Award is decided by viewers or judges?

Earlier this year I thought the Welsh Rugby Team would be almost guaranteed the award - then the bloody England cricketers had to go and win the Ashes!

And if Freddie Flintoff doesn't win the main award, I'll eat my hat!*

* Luckily, I don't actually have any hats!

Oh well, guess I'm not normally observant enough.
Thanks for the clarification, guys!

i seem to recall lasy years english regions programmes, (shown everywhere but london) were aired between 7.00 and 7.30 on a friday in december. in 2003 the awards only took place on bbc yorks & lincs, bbc north east and cumbria, bbc northwest and bbc midlands (and possibly bbc east midlands) - shown late night with a timeshifted schedule.

never heard of it been shoved into a 6.30 show

If you're meaning the CIS Cup final, it's been postponed by 7 days as George Best's funeral is being held this Saturday.

really? I'm sure I can remember it being on Look North a while back. Unless they were just endlessly plugging the show that would follow them to prevent them having to do any actual work.

Wasn't it midweek?

Wasn't it last year where Network thoughtfully told us that 'Bargain Hunt' was 'Next' ?
