BBC Sport - new graphics (Reith font)

Split from The Sport Thread (August 2017)

Birmingham Athletics. The 'home output' (i.e away from the Diamond League world feed coverage)
Name astons, still in the old style (and font)
This partwork rebrand is really chaotic and disjointed.

I get that with BBC Sport OB production split across various third party suppliers, it can be difficult to get the new house style in quickly, but there really is no excuse for what I saw on BBC Breakfast yesterday morning, where the football fixtures were still in the old BBC Sport black/yellow glass gloss boxes (and font)

BT Sport and Moov are based in the same building and switched over the new graphic style on every sport, both OB or studio, on the same day - easy as they are both hunkered down at Here East..

..so as BBC Sport and BBC Breakfast are based in the same building in Salford - I wonder what their excuse is on that one?

Stuff like that is seldom hampered by lack of geographical location... (i.e. you don't have to be in the same building to co-ordinate changes)

However you do need a budget and some operator-time...

Phil Jones leaving the BBC's athletics coverage after today. Big loss as he was excellent as interviewer/reporter

A real loss, especially when you consider we had Sally Gunnell before. Be interesting to see who replaces him - Sonja McLaughlan has done the role for C4 previously. After last week perhaps Ore if he doesn't think it's beneath him, though suspect he'll be on the presenter roster for the Commonwealth Games and European Sports Championships next year. However being a sideline reported would at least guarantee a trip out to the Gold Coast - I suspect the Commonwealth Games may be hosted from Salford. Can anyone remember what the BBC did with Melbourne in 2006?

And a shame to see the old graphics on the athletics - it wouldn't have really been a surprise as the last live track event of the season they'll be broadcasting but in the press release they specifcally said the package would debut for athletics today.

I could be wrong but it looks like the equestrian coverage on BBC Two this afternoon is using some of the new graphics... at least, I definitely saw the new style BBC Reith when someone was being interviewed.

New logo on the microphone. Looks weird, probably could have done with all yellow.

Bear in mind that the sport output on BBC News was sporadically (at least until recently, I've not seen it for a while) using this old style of programme pointer, even though it's use ended before the Salford operation opened, I don't think getting the right era of graphics is particularly high priority for them.

I imagine they're the same ones with the new BBC Sport logo slapped on top.

I was expecting them to be all yellow too or white with a yellow box.

The old one were a bit odd too with the words in yellow rather than within a yellow box.

There were some all yellow ones with black text around too - I think the radio side of F1 had them for a while

BBC One Northern Ireland or One NI? Binoculars at the ready for the third one.

It's like the dancers era back again...though of course BBC Sport has used BBC Sport NI rather than BBC Sport Northern Ireland for years.

I'm not sure why NI would bother with a promo for the rugby league Challenge Cup either, it's a sport which is practically unknown in Ireland north or south.

Can the BBC implement a rule, that only one mention of the region on screen with multiple logos?
