It's unrepresentative of what the previous logo looked like though - that was only used for one purpose, as a social media avatar, and didn't appear anywhere else. The logo didn't appear stacked like that on TV, nor did it have that font weight or style of gradient.

No you're right - I was just thinking about why he might have gone for that, not knowing from his own experience what the more common variation was.
Some minor changes to Final Score, match resports now include the Match Stats on the right, long league names now wrap onto a new line rather than squashing it all on one line, and goal scorers' names are now bold on the ticker.
May see a bit more of the package today on the Athletics, though the event graphics themselves will be for the Diamond League.
Still baffles me why they didn't launch them with the World Athletic Champs - that would have been a clean break too with no cross over events unlike last weekend where you had old graphics on the athletics and golf and new graphics on the football.
