On some of the graphics the BBC sport stacked logo is so small you can barely see the BBC sport logo.

I agree, especially when showing the stats at the end of the match. Even on a 46"TV, you can't see the BBC lettering.

They might as well just show a yellow box with just "SPORT" on there, as per "ONE", "TWO" and "iPLAYER" boxes as we've seen already.

P.S. Whats this "Expected Goals" nonsense where in the match stats after the game they tell you the Expected Goals, which in both matches sofar has seen the lose expected to score more. Might make sense to show it before a live match, but not after the highlights.

It's a new Opta stat for this season, something to do with goals that "should" have been scored, supposed to be a more accurate stat for missed chances than just shots on target. No, not quite sure how it works, either.

It does seem odd that they've only recently updated the pres for the sports updates on the news, but still in the old style. I wonder if that will remain until the news changes?
Shouldn't be too hard to just swap out the BBC Sport logo on the titles. Graphics like scoreboards should be updated immediately. Lower thirds will probably stay as they are for now though, with the Helvetica font.

Mhm, that's a bit of a problem.

I haven't seen how it looks on a HD set yet, but on a 43" screen in SD the BBC blocks appeared as 3 smudged squares, illegible. It shouldn't be displayed any smaller than the scoreboard logo really.

That they're having to drop the "BBC" from the channel brands (something which has not been seen on screen since before the 1991 tidy up) demonstrates a fundamental flaw with the design at that size, and one which could be addressed.

It's a nice look though, very clean. Not sure about the blue graphic backgrounds on the MotD set, bit weird and out of kilter.

The red card graphic above the team name when a player has been sent off is pretty small and difficult to see.

Thought it was pretty clear myself. So glad it is all 16:9 safe too - hopefully BBC News follows suit.

They just showed the schedule for some BBC sport. It included "TWO" logos shown 3 times but without the "BBC" but added onto it. It also included "iPlayer" without the BBC bit also.

Is that because the new BBC Sport logo was also on screen therefore there was no need for further "BBC" references??

I think it's fine though have seen them use the BBC Sport logo on the right too so it appears twice within a strap.

Going to put a helmet on now and strap on the suit of armour but do the decisions made about dropping the logo in the new package and the discussion here about its legibility suggest that perhaps the BBC logo is no longer fit for purpose?

Imagine if a BBC2 identity was shown on screen with just a "TWO" green box in the corner?? There would be uproar!!

Been done for a while on the BBC Sport website, albeit with intermittent consistency....

WHAT??? Shocked That's a pretty bold statement Brekkie!!! You'll cause bedlam, riots and pandemonium on TV Forum by coming out with such strong views!!! Very Happy

But - it is a valid point though. Thumbs up

I've got to say I much prefer it without the BBC logo, I really like how clean it looks

The current BBC logo was designed so it would be seen better at small sizes, and that was back in the days of standard definition analogue broadcasts and (comparative to now) low resolution computer monitors. I don't think there's any problem with it scaling to different sizes. It's just that this graphics package is a bit on the small side. Besides, I imagine that people are familiar enough with the three blocks that even at such a reduced size they know it's the BBC logo.

Although, is there not something that says the BBC logo must not be altered in anyway?
Perhaps they weren't taking the chance by changing the perspective of the logo.
