Sally was back tonight and also presented the lunchtime bulletin.

A nice promo came on after the news round up with George with Sally talking about South Today and why viewers depend on it. Some nice studio shots were used. Did anyone else see this and what do you think?! Very Happy

Yeah I saw that promo on Saturday, its great Wink

Does anyone know the name of the ginger haired guy who presented the weather for a short while, some time after Dorcas left?

Is he working somewhere else in the BBC?

We thought he was excellent ! (Nothing to do with my ID you understand)

I'm confused - if Sally Taylor's the only presenter of South Today's 18:30 show, what does Roger Finn present? Has he got the lunchtime slot or something?

Roger has gone back to reporting for now.

Alina was back tonight. Stuart Norval did the late update last night I think Pauline Brandt is having this week off too.

QUESTION: Are the breakfast bulletins always done from the small desk and self opt?

Think the brekky bulletins normally come from the smaller studio at So'ton, the one used for the Oxford opt at 1830 and 2225. However I don't think that this studio has been used as a self-op since the demise of the 1'15" morning and 1'00" afternoon summaries in the mid-to-late 90s. In fact I think that with the two camera set-up now in use you'd see the buttons and faders inset in the desk if it were self-op capable?

AIUI the second studio at So'ton works to a smaller mini-gallery - which at one point was housed in the main So'ton graphics area (not sure if it still is - they may have re-housed it, or put a smaller graphics operation into the main gallery?)

(Traditionally the shorter bulletins in English regions have often been directed by Station Assistants rather than Assistant Producers - and SAs also worked in graphics)

So are the Oxfordshire opts actually done from Southampton? 'cause on Geraldine Peers's profile it says she lives near Oxford.
I always thought Geraldine did the news from a little TV studio in the BBC Oxford building along with the "Where I Live" stuff and Radio Oxford. Confused:

I don't think they are pre-recorded because things sometimes go wrong on the Oxon opt and often it seems live; the presenter apologises and stuff. Surely if it was pre-recorded they'd just edit out mistakes?? Confused

But do they have time to do that? Although if it was pre-recorded they could use the main studio I suppose so yeah it might not be.
