First time I have watched BBC South's 'Parly' slot at 1300 on Sundays for a while. It used to be called 'South at Westminter' and it was basically a Parliamentary review programme...

Since it is now also broadcast in the BBC South East (Tunbridge Wells) region as well (before the London/South East split they would have got Metropol / Around Westminster) it has had quite a re-launch. The Westminster-centric parliamentary coverage has gone - it is now much more of a current affairs, discussion show. Definitely benefits as a result, and they make good use of the Southampton studio. The whole programme was clean and fresh, no mistakes, no dodgy camera shots or vision mixing...

(Can't see how Tunbridge Wells could do a distinctive disco on their newsroom set... London have had to use the BBC Westminster newsroom for Metropol since they left Elstree, as they don't have a decent studio for this type of programme either...)

I guess it makes sense to merge this sort of programme between BBC South and BBC South East as it then covers the same region as Meridian's 7 Days (which is pan regional across the Meridian Newbury, Southampton and Maidstone sub-regions) plus the BBC Oxford sub-region...

Anyone know if the new 2 ident DRIP has appeared in the the regions yet?

BBC Two South were using Bounce this week I think.

BBC 2 South always use bounce before South on Sunday (recorded announcement) although I'm not sure about Southern Eye.

South on Sunday relaunched a while ago I can remember Bruce Parker saying its going to be more relaxed, and then of course he got married and for three weeks we had Roger Finn.

That's about all I know about South on Sunday.

Yep - I guess South on Sunday launched at the same time as BBC South East launched from Tunbridge Wells?

(Couple of weeks/months(?) before BBC London News launched - ISTR that Newsroom South East continued for a little while after South East Today launched)

Did anyone get any captures of this?

Does your region use any other ident except Bounce?

I've only ever seen Bounce on BBC TWO Yorks & Lincs, it was Bounce today as well at 11.20am and 100pm!

Andrew,

Did you know my BBC Leeds interest is now so big, I watch the Super League Show, North of Westminster and Close Up North now?

I would guess that Bounce is used by most English regions on Two as the Thursday evening documentary (now in its last run before a new regional show replaces it on BBC One in the autumn?) and the Sunday lunchtime parliamentary/current affairs shows are normally quite serious in tone. The other idents are a bit more quirky, (and in some cases quite a lot longer!) and might not work so well.

(Also I think the ident where the 2 uses its arm to rotate the BBC TWO purple square would be difficult to modify with a 'South' or 'South East' logo, as the logo would either need to fade on after the card has turned round, or the logo would need to be added using quite a complex bit of post production. I would have been surprised if Lambie Nairn had delivered versions for all English regions...)

BTW - Do all English regions add a region name in the purple box - I see South and South East do? Do Leeds manage to squeeze on 'Yorks & Lincs' and do Newcastle squeeze in 'North East and Cumbria'!? Or do both revert to North, or a standard Two?

Actually I disagree about the 2 where he flips the card. It s been designed to be flexable enough to alter, like when BBC Four Launched, although it would be a lot of extra work for each region.

I think that this region uses Yorks & Lincs. If they'd used 'Yorkshire & Lincolnshire', the lettering would have been too small to be discernible.

And they also use a standard 'BBC TWO' for The Super League Show

Sometimes promos come with a 'BBC TWO North' Purple Square
