Haha is that directed at me? While I do work for good ol' Auntie, I'm not connected to CBBC, just take an interest in these things. The Project Teens crew are going on a few visits to universities across the country to recruit final year undergrads and postgrads to the new team. It's a very attractive job opportunity and should mean great things for the under-18 audience

Really? That sounds interesting.
Just out of interest, how are you connected? I bet most members know, but I don't, so...

£500m?? That cant be right surely? That's about the same as the whole BBC2 budget, and the CBBC budget is about £50m i think.

Well keep watching - BBC Teens (working title) will be pumping out creative stuff for the 12-17 yo audience (that CBBC has been moving away from) starting this September if all goes to plan... And there's £500 million pounds worth of funding behind it IIRC.

Well that figure has been floated around - there's certainly a very large sum of money apportioned to BBC Vision (the new name for all things tv and online etc) and I know a large chunk of it is being spent on this age group. It's a very underserved audience and, when you think about it, are the people who will be consuming the BBC's current output in a few years.
BBC TV's audience has been steadily declining, due in part to a lack of engagement with younger people. So as the audience gradually gets older there's noone left to replace them who consumes BBC output.
Let's face it, what BBC brands do 12-17 year olds currently consume - Radio 1 (and associated non-audio stuff etc), perhaps Top Gear magazine and a couple of others. Beyond that there's not a great deal for them, hence the big investment.
That's the situation according to me though, not that of the Beeb's...

I accidentally posted this in another thread.
The Virgin Media one. Nothing to do with BBC Teens.
However...
The only BBC programmes I've heard teens talking about are Little Britain, Top Gear and Torchwood.
That's a very small amount compared to the rest of the programmes they talk about. Sky One and Living, Channel 4 all seem popular.
And as a public service broadcaster, the BBC should have more programming aimed at teens. That's why I think a teen brand is a good idea.
