Why do they keep doing this!

This alteration looks utterly ridiculous. I hope this isn't going to become the master-brand and that the Australian designers copied the american version.

Once could be seen as a bit of a rogue accident, but twice? This is on it's way everywhere isn't it. A change for the sake of it and a worse one at that - looks childish against the current one. We're going to end up with years and years of both logos - there's still the occasional outing of the 2002 BBC One logo!

Such a shame.

I still think this might just be a rogue graphic designer doing their own thing. Both instances of this have been in international services from BBC Studios - it's possibly the same designer, and everyone else either hasn't noticed or doesn't care?

MLN will be turning in his grave. A disaster of graphic design and consistency.

Whilst I wouldn't support a new blocks logo as my first choice, an all-in redesign consistently applied would be better than this nonsense where even the blocks aren't sacrosanct.

Closing TV Forum seems apt with that awful logo coming.

Not to overthink things but with this, The BBC Select logo and the fact that BBC One could be getting a refresh, I’m pretty sure this is gonna end up being the BBC’s new logo.

It wouldn't take much for Two to get the new blocks around this time too - just switch the logo in the Curve idents with one featuring the Reith blocks.

We can only hope - this really is a mess and looks absolutely horrible. It's far less legible and consistent on normal screen sizes, so one can only imagine how terrible it will look in small spaces (i.e. BBC News graphics).

EDIT: Removed pointless comment

Slightly far fetched, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's the first part of the Tories' plan to level down the BBC, to turn public opinion against the Corporation so that they can dismantle it altogether. Start with the logo, and along falls everything else...

I’ve read some things on here in 16 years, but suggesting the government is interfering with branding and trying to use a logo change to abolish the BBC is quite a stretch to say the least.

My opinion, this version of the logo has been made by some graphic designer working for BBC Studios who hasn’t had access to/been sent the master artwork. The brand logos have then been signed off by people without intimate knowledge of the proper logo who saw the letters in the blocks and didn’t spot anything wrong with it. Most people probably wouldn’t unless you put them side by side or something.

The "rogue" BBC blocks have surfaced again, this time in Australia:

Why isn't that called CBBC? Though, BBC Kids did previously exist in Canada.

I think this is either planned to replace the current logo, or maybe a differentiated BBC worldwide logo. The lack of correction, and this new variant, can't be just put down to a rush job or rouge designer.

The end is neigh it seems. 1997 - 2021.

It is an ugly new logo, and whoever ok'd it should be placed in the stocks and pelted with wet flannels!

This forum has a no swearing policy, doesn't it. So I'll probably self-censor the first twenty words that come to mind.

I know that some have hypothesised a rogue designer, but that would very much be an abuse of the word designer. It's a worse Reithified logo than anything we've seen on The Gallery and none of them come anywhere close to the simple, beautiful brilliance of the 1997 logo. A company's brand is its public face, and if that is the public face that the BBC is willing to choose for itself then God help it.

For the minute I shall continue to cling to everything I've previously said in this thread but, if I am wrong, I fear my love affair with the BBC logo may be coming to an end. Either that or I'll continue to use the 1997 logo for all purposes like a Japanese holdout.
