The random scheduling got a message by Chris Moyles this morning. He was plugging the Doctor Who Weakest Link special when David Tennant interrupted with 'except for viewers in Scotland'. Moyles was like: "What? What are they replacing with? Sportscene or something?"

The Sky solution was mentioned and David said he'd need to remind his mum... Rolling Eyes

Sky is fair enough - but IMO the public shouldn't be forced into buying an extra above the TV licence just to catch the same shows as the rest of the UK. ( I do own a Freeview box before anyone tells me I'll have to buy at least something to receive television shortly! ) Smile

Newsbeat on Radio 1 have just done a promo for The Apprentice (loosely dressed up as news) and teased it as being on BBC1, obviously forgetting Scotland

I know you find Scottish scheduling annoying, but you're way off to suggest that "the [Scottish] public" are being so badly served locally that they need the Network service from London.

I'm sorry but you're creating a huge issue where there is none.

Sometimes I'd like to watch a Network programme instead of the Scottish one but on balance we are extremely well served.

Well relatively speaking no issue on TV Forum is a huge one, it's people's opinions and counteropinions. And if you read back some of what I've posted on here, I've said that part of the problem is not that we need a network feed, but BBC Scotland's erratic programme moves.

Half the problem here is that you're looking at schedules and comparing them to BBC One Network. That's not how they're meant to be viewed. BBC One Scotland is pretty much it's own channel... scheduling control rests in Scotland. If you bought a copy of the Radio Times and just followed what it says for BBC One Scotland, I think you wouldn't be so annoyed. It's a no-win situation... half the people want more Scottish programming, the other half want less.

Surely that's a sign of BBC One Scotland trying to please everyone by catering for both Scottish and Network programmes. I very much doubt it's done on purpose and if there was an better solution it would have been implemented.

will STV still has some programmes NEVER shown in Scotland a swell

including some of the:

barrymore My kind of music
....... From Hell type programmes
johnny English film

and many more

WHAT!!! Is that complaint for real? Add to that the likes of WAGS' Boutique (which there are no plans to show here, but it was available in ITV2), it's nice to see that the scheduling dept at stv do have their heads screwed on sometimes.

If I remember correctly, Johnny English was shown on the rest of the network on Burns Night 2006? If this is the case, it is almost certain that stv will have lost the rights to show this film.

...but when myself and others say moving around, we mean constantly moving around, not just moved to one time slot and kept there...

It's not quite at S4C levels (ie Wales suffering because the regulators decided people in that country should be forced to learn Welsh, so therefore destroying their best channel) but it's heading towards it.

Some of the scheduling decisions are erratic. Ok, I see the point of the major football matches being moved to BBC1 Scotland in principle, but in reality it just means any promotional activity nationwide (bearing in mind BBC3, BBC4 and the national radio networks) is ruled out/confused. Also so many of the moves are so inconsistent, understandably because they're trying to do so much and failing to fit all the network stuff in.

It's all commendable, but the days when BBC1 Scotland/BBC2 Scotland/STV are the main deal are long gone my friend - the local side need to work with the network nowdays. Which means the BBC2 Wales solution seems like the best way forward (make BBC2 your national channel - the majority of stuff is minority interest anyway).

To be honest, unless anyone (hey Gavin) has ratings to prove me wrong, this is where River City should be in the first place. It ain't Eastenders after all.
