BBC Scotland scheduling carnage

So it's 9.40pm and BBC1 Scotland are showing a Champions' League qualifier. Extra time has just started.

As we've seen on previous occasions the 10pm news is never shifted, so normally games if they run late have to be shifted to BBC2 if they run over 10pm. Imagine the scene in pubs across Scotland as owners race to try and find the remote control...

Unfortunately BBC Scotland shows their football highlights programme tonight on BBC2 Scotland at 10pm. It's not a repeat that can just be cancelled.

Should be interesting to see what they do. I think Sportscene is recorded, so unless they've got shortened highlights they can use that Dougie can introduce, then they either show Sportscene after Newsnight (causing a bit of a logistical nightmare as opt-outs will have to continue all night), or on another day (pissing off a lot of football fans, bearing in mind the games were played on Saturday).

It's the second one - they've just announced they will be on at 11.20pm.

Late night at Pacific Quay, considering that the Sign Zone is on BBC1 from 12.45am, and Scotland normally takes network continuity at this point.

Literally about 10 seconds of warning there - pubs across Glasgow are going to be in uproar after that.

We got the commentator stating: "Welcome now to viewers on BBC2 Scotland", a quick summary of the game so far, and then: "Switch over to BBC1 Scotland now", repeated once. It then abruptly cut to an advert.

They must have known that was coming and should have flagged it up more prominently from half time in extra time. Because in a chaotic pub full of people shouting their lungs off, who would've noticed that, or a small caption at the bottom?

Also, the very quick announcement didn't warn viewers that Sportscene is actually now on at 11.20pm, so non-old firm supporting fans tuning in to see St Mirren or whoever will just assume it's been cancelled.

I understand why they want to show their biggest shows on BBC1 Scotland (although I don't understand why this doesn't extend to premiered episodes of Still Game), but it always causes chaos.

Must be a way round it though - showing such a big show on your lesser watched channel's a bit daft. I know a lot of people who kept missing it because they forgot it wasn't on 1.

Incidentally, if this goes to penalties, given the previous form of these players from the spot we'll be lucky if we get Newsnight... Rolling Eyes

What Not To Wear doesn't show any signs of appearing on BBC Scotland's schedule except in the Sign Zone...

Grandad's Back in Business has now disappeared from it's 9pm Monday slot - and not an announcement after this week's edition to say where it's going ( if anywhere! )

Speaking of the Sign Zone, what could have been a half-hour pre-Sign Zone gap on Sunday night has instead been allocated to Snooze 24...and even Wales seem to be turning against the gaps, with a ten-minute filler on the same night.
