I don't understand, AndrewDundee, what the fuss is about. I'm old enough to remember when STV screened Crossroads at 5.20 p.m. when most of the rest of the ITV network were showing it at 6.35. Indeed, if you go back to the 60s and look at ITV schedules you'd see that even in peak time there was little or no standardisation. Grampian would be showing The Saint, STV The Fugitive, Granada, Man In A Suitcase in the same slot. If you want to watch certain BBC 1 programmes when they're being screened in England, get a Sky box.

I see after a period of generally settled scheduling, the " fun " begins again this week.

Holby City moved to 9pm Tuesday because of River City
Bonekickers moved to Friday because of the Holby City move.
Would I Lie To You? moved to Saturday because of the Bonekickers move. And the movement trail goes on...

IMO they had been relatively " well behaved " for the first half of the year ; I hope this isn't the start of their erratic behaviour again.

Somebody might have to complain to POV Wink

River City has been on for years. Get over it.

I'm fed up with the way it was shunted to hour-long episodes - as it wasn't written that way and it tends to ruin the flow.

River City belongs in that slot - and its many regular viewers agree,

It was " shunted " to a one hour slot because people did complain about the scheduling of two half hours disrupting the schedule. I've no problem with it per se, my comment is that BBC Scotland could move one programme, not a whole lot to accomodate.

we have been hear before, but the amount of time I have seen comedy disappear for 2 weeks and then reappear on another day is a joke!

How much local content does BBC1 Scotland have most weeks then, and how does it compare to Wales and Northern Ireland?

BBC1 Wales is very rarely interrupted between 8-10pm. Quite often the 7.30pm slot is used, but everything else is at 10.35pm, and then of course there is/was BBC 2W, but even at it's peak that's not much more than an hour a day.

Long may BBC Scotland's erratic nature continue!!

My TiVo box uses this to its advantage, and reschedules BBC recordings to record from the nations rather than the main NE&C stream on a regular basis.

To be fair Brekkie, there has been a big improvement this year compared to last, but it's the erratic nature sometimes, and their complete lack of communication with the viewer when a programme moves slots or " disappears " mid series. River City is currently the only prime time hour long opt-out as far as I know, but things tend to be worse from September. BBC2 seems to be disrupted more now, but again to be fair to BBCS, they do seem to be using repeat slots to show programmes. The worst part of the ( non summer ) BBC2 Scotland schedule is because they show Gaelic in a two hour slot on a Thursday between 6 and 8pm, the programmes running in the 6pm / 630pm slot are displaced.

I was at one of the meetings of the consultation group that the Scottish government set up on the future of broadcasting in Scotland, and the biggest complaint was the movement of BBC1 / 2 prime time, and losing half of Newsnight to Newsnight Scotland.

But i will state it again - there has been an improvement.

Actually, I would disagree here - I'm led to believe that the the hour slot (which appeared sporadically from time to time beforehand) became more permanent when ITV stuck Corrie on at 8.30 on a Friday on a permanent basis - meaning you would have had the two soaps clashing, a situation BBC Scotland would most likely have wanted to avoid. Why they can't just put it back to Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8pm like in the beginning I don't know - The Bill really isn't that much competition now.

Is there not national services in the 900's? I know we used to get BBC 1 Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland here in Manchester (can't remember if BBC Two versions were there or not). Is the situation not reveresed so that BBC London is in the 900 in the Nations or something?

I mentioned this to Andrew in his original, "Why can't we be English, too?" thread.
