BBC Scotland could start by scrapping River City and Scotland 2015. I'd have no issue with a lot less continuity from Glasgow. I think it's ridiculous that in the time of all these cuts at the BBC and the ( Scottish ) government that they're still providing a channel dedicated to Gaelic.

AS its already been said BBC Scotland opt outs during the day aswell, on BBC one and two for holyrood, sport etc

But as I said, there's no guarantee that will continue. Remember BBC Scotland themselves have to cut 1/5 of their expenditure too. Just because it's done today is not on it's own a good enough reason as to why it must continue.

I find it hilarious that on one thread its being suggested that shutting the entire BBC News Channel down is a possibility, but on another people are refusing to believe it would ever be possible for BBC Scotland to take Network continuity for parts of the day.

Oh for goodness sack, Scotland already get 95% network CA for BBC two so were already used to it. But to say there are no guarantee that Holyrood will continue is more hilarious Rolling Eyes

River City is very popular. I have to agree about BBC Alba, maybe there could have a new block on BBC Two which is just full or repeats anyway?

Would the country be devastated at the loss of River City? Probably not. I remember when it was launched it was said that if it was a success that it would be networked across the UK..

Is that in relation to Scotland only? BBC as a whole? BBC as a world wide company including its private channels? I just like to know so I have a good starting point.

Arguably the easiest way to save money at BBC Scotland is to stop the daft situation of making programmes that used to be made at TV Centre, which have no Scottish connection, at Pacific Quay just to fulfil a quota, incurring huge travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for performers, contributors and key production staff.

That in turn might have made TV Centre viable in the eyes of the beancounters and saved the silly amounts of money that have been spent providing inferior facilities in other places.

What connection do lottery gameshows have to any geographical location? Why not make them outside London? A place hardly known for it's cheap staffing, travel and accommodation costs.

Have a read of http://www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk/tv%20centre%20history.htm#costs - I'll happily acknowledge that bits of it are written with rose tinted spectacles, but there are some good points made, particularly by one J Clarkson.

They could let us all watch Queen on Hogmanay instead of Jackie Bird 😉

Well here is the thing Does Scotland need cuts? its already been said Scotland is under funded and is not matching out put to Money coming in. so lets look at some points:

News: News could get some cuts, look at STV for years Scotland today and North tonight were the poor relation. In 2006 both had to make further cuts and still can out perform RS. Does BBC need to have so many presenters for one programme? STV has local channels, and 3 separate news areas at 18.00 and again at 22.50. you could slim down and still be a powerful force,

Radio: If what is said about Fred macaulay show is correct then maybe there should make cuts here aswell. 19 people? really you could save money across the broad of jobs where shared with other shows etc.

Studios/ offices: Does Scotland need all these offices? http://www.bbc.co.uk/corporate2/scotland/about/contactus/ again STV only Five and there sometimes use freelancers for the islands. Glasgow does have a big studios, and STV do use them alot aswell as other companies? Maybe Glasgow should try advertising it as a Events evenings? That could bring in some more cash.

BBC Alba: I doubt there could kill off the channel, but why not move the channel and share it with CBBC so 19pm - 02.00 ( whats the points in extending CBBC if it just getting filled with crap) that would free up transponder and that would be sold off or etc.
Of course you could move the kids programmes to BBC two Scotland? instead of more flog it?

Programmes, as said there not making enough Scottish programmes so lets leave that alone. I would just leave CA staff as if for the moment.

Personnel, I would demand a bottom up review of all money spent and the new for all people jobs, I would demand ALL profits from BBC Worldwide private operations to used to improve the BBC.
