If commercials were added, it may have to go along the French model where they can't show ads in prime time or during shows to allow commercial operators such as TF1 and M6 to have the prime time revenue.

While the salaries are part of the story, it's also been reported there is a BBC away day today with the DG and senior managers, where service closures or content cuts will be discussed. The plan is then, possibly, to make an announcement at the RTS Cambridge Convention. So among the talk of BBC funding and pay, it does seem the Beeb have big plans to save money even after the issue with over-75 licences.

It also widely understood (well it used to be) that - much like being the President of the United States - considering the importance of the job, you don't get paid a huge amount whilst doing it but the potential opportunities after you've done the job make up for that.
Yes and regardless of that, PM is one of the few jobs those who do it probably would and could do it without the salary attached, it’s also one of the only jobs you can do where you can’t really ask for a pay rise.
It’s a terrible gauge to use to determine what anyone else should be earning.

Going back to Yes Minister that was explained in the novel version of "Party Games". The Prime Minister announced he was resigning in the new year. In the novel of the story it is said:
"The Prime Minister, having announced his resignation went abroad on what were ostensibly goodwill visits to friendly countries. In reality he was setting up a lucrative lecture tour and some profitable consultancies".
Once again, just look at Thatcher, Blair etc, and you will see the late Sir Anthony Jay and living Jonathan Lynn, writers of Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister knew reality of the benefits of the office of Prime Minister.

Some form of performance related pay might not be a bad idea though!

Looking at the list, Gary Lineker has obviously been discussed already, but with Chris Evans leaving he is so far in front it really sticks out massively.
Claudia Winkleman seems a tad out of step with those names in similar brackets when you consider she neither does a vast volume of work, or is seen as the top of her genre. Strictly is excluded.
The others seem as you’d expect, the likes of Vanessa do loads of hours, Huw Edwards is obviously the number 1 newsreader, Andrew Marr the number 1 political host etc.

My bold. May I ask the source of your information?
I roll my eyes at these thing because a lot of people clearly have no idea of the market and just mak
ITV pay double if not triple the amount the BBC do
. A lot of talent work there way up the ladder at the BBC are we to say to them not you reached this level you should go. No because it’s BBC talent. Also as a licence fee payer I want the BBC to be the best it can be with the best talent like many others. This is going to cost. Graham Norton is one of if not the best chat show host in the UK. So of course he going to be worth a big pay check. His show is sold around the world and I bet the BBC makes money out of that so he’s likely to be worth the money.
Now on to Gary I fell sorry for him as he is getting all the heat. Gary could easily get double if not triple if he works for another broadcaster but he does not do that because he enjoys working for the BBC. Why should we get rid of someone who enjoys working for the BBC who clearly a fan favourite and is paid below the average. Also the pay figures that are had been released are only for direct pay from the BBC they do not include production company pay. So there is a good chance of people like Claudia Winkleman, Graham Norton to name a few could be earning more through production companies rather than being pay direct from the BBC like Gary Lineker who is paid directly from the BBC. That’s why he’s comes across as the biggest earner.
The rise in talent pay is likely to equal pay for women. The BBC have been reducing pay over the last few year it only gone up this year. I know the BBC was trying to save money by cutting men’s pay to equal women’s but after the storm the BBC had no choice but to pay women the higher pay which has pushed the talent pay up. Women should have been paid the same from the start but let’s not open that can of worms here.
So all in all this is nothing. And would not make a huge difference. I understand people are upset about the benefit being cut but you have to be realistic.

Why?
Claudia Winkleman has a regular slot on Radio 2, and also hosted Britain's Best Home Cook, and The Biggest Weekend in 2018. The wage seems understandable to me.

Strictly is produced by a 'commercial' arm of the BBC and therefore isn't included in the released figures.

Isn't virtually everything made for BBC TV now classed as commercial now that BBC studios has been spun off? How much stuff is still made in house now, just news?
