Oh yeah, a soap set in the East End of London filmed in Manchester. That would work.

Well, that's the magic of television. You don't have to film stuff where it's set. The actors sound like they're from East London, so does it matter where they're actually standing?

On that logic, why not move it to India. Cheaper.

Granada's problems with Quay Street at the moment are that will have to sell the office block as a whole. There are issues around preservation status. The negotiations with the BBC are still ongoing. The Salford development is another of these funny PFI projects where the production facilities will be operated separate to the BBC - similar to ThreeSixty media but different. The plans keep changing with both the BBC & Granada & Salfords designs are not yet finalised.

The only certainty is that it is going to cost a shed load of public money for a facility that few people in the BBC actually want.

I think that if I was a Who fan I'd have wanted it on VT all the same.

That would make Doctor Who the new series look less-drama-like and since their using the filmic effect would gain interest with international broadcasters.

Ah yes, the same tactic Lew Grade employed with his ITC productions being always filmed. Knew there was a reason I didn't like Rupert Bear and Thunderbirds as much as "proper" ATV productions!

We should be making our TV programmes for us, not international broadcasters.
