Just thinking about the still-vacant and now without-a-future bonded warehouse at granada studios - wouldn't this make a good site for Eastenders? Could create a bit of a centre for soap production.

Oh yeah, a soap set in the East End of London filmed in Manchester. That would work. At least in Elstree it's technically in London. 0208 code and the like..

And before anyone mentions Holby, I think Eastenders is slightly different and has a longer more Southern history than that.

I missed the latest developments on the Bonded Warehouse story... have Granada decided not to move out of Quay Street and go next door then? Or is it much worse, in that they've decided to close the whole lot?

No-one knows yet, that was the plan anyway, but I remember they were postponed at one point, one other option was to use the BBC's site at Salford Quays when they move over, as it was mooted that Coronation Street would go with it too.

If anyone knows the area around the Quay Street studios will know that there is a high demand for property there, for instance the old Granada TV Car Park is now home to a massive Office which I think is used by ESure. I'm really surprised that the Studios haven't been redeveloped sooner.

Well "soap set in North London school filmed in Childwall" has already happened, although should this happen to EastEnders (and we know nothing is impossible), at least the London actors would be able to move to the new filming site. But who's to say they wouldn't be encouraged to leave as soon as possible so local actors could take their place?

Maybe we should discuss Coronation Street in the appropiate thread, however I will make my point.

I personally think Granada or ITV should buy an area in Salford and build a fictional Weatherfield Set. They could do like Brookside and use the Set for Indoor & Outdoor Scenes. This would then take Coronation Street back to its roots.

Let's put it this way, if the spent millions on it, it wouldn't be money wasted. Coronation Street won't be axed after 47 years on TV.

Eastenders could be axed, but Coronation Street is safe.

I really cant see them doing a brookie in Salford. have you even been there. it can be like world war 3 there sometimes.

It would need to be a closed set or the scallies would trash it!

Is it me or Holby looks a bit wrong in hd it's weird

Your confusing HD, and the filmic effect. HD is simply a higher resolution. HD has two formats 'i' Interlaced. and 'p' Progressive.

'i' gives a Live feel, immediacy, like filming Corrie and Live events or a studio audience.

'p' gives a more filmic effect, without the need to add the filmic effect.

At the moment Holby is in SD 576i, which has been using the filmic effect added onto the video.

I actually don't think using progressive imaging makes it that bad. Doctor Who , Heroes etc look excellent with the 'filmic effect'. While I don't think it would suit the news, it makes it look a little more 'dramatic' to me.

Interestingly, I was at the cinema last week, and in some scenes in the film I was watching the picture suddenly changed (for no readily apparent reason) from progressive to interlaced pictures. It looked really weird.

I think that if I was a Who fan I'd have wanted it on VT all the same.

Exactly it even explains that in the BBC HD Guideline book, and hence when TV stations film their news HD they use 'i' instead of 'p'. Although DW is still in SD, Torchwood would be using 'p' for their HD.

That would make Doctor Who the new series look less-drama-like and since their using the filmic effect would gain interest with international broadcasters.

Well, that's the magic of television. You don't have to film stuff where it's set. The actors sound like they're from East London, so does it matter where they're actually standing?

It's nothing to do with p or i as such, it's to do with refresh rate. 1080p50 looks just as much like video ("live feel") as 1080i50. 1080p25 is the "filmic effect". (substitute 60 & 24 for 50 & 25 for US material)

I must have mis-read the HD Guideline then, but anyways...
