Didn't the reporters branding the end of their report with their name and company stem from WWII, when pirate signals were fed in from Germany and other countries to change various parts of the news? After that happened they started saying 'This is the BBC Newsreel and this is John Snage reading it'. (And modern day 'This is BBC News 24, I'm Gavin Eslar')

I could have sworn I saw about this on a documentary a while back!
