North West Tonight have a weekly entertainment insert called 'Box Office' it has titles and is presented by the multi purpose weather presenter Dianne Oxberry!

EDIT: Do other regions do the same or have equivalent inserts?

I haven't payed much attention to my BBC regional programme, Midlands Today, for ages. But they used to have something called News Makers during the Thursday 1830 edition. They may still have for all I know.

Viewers can phone up from Friday-Wednesday with any issues thay think might be of interest to MidTdy. One is selected, and a report made - presented by the member of the public who phoned!!!

News Makers came about during the multicolored stained-glass/patchwork-quilt era of MidTdy, with a short opening sequence in a matching style visually but very different music.

When MidTdy went generic they stupidly kept the pre-generic News Makers titles, which looked even more stupid when MidTdy went widescreen - as they were zoomed & cropped 14:9.

I don't know whether News makers is still using that intro or if it now has a generic one. It may not have an intro at all, or the feature may not exist at all now. But I really wouldn't know.

Look East in Norwich/Cambridge had a weekly arts and entertainment slot called 'The Event'. It usually comprised a 2-3'00' film about a single artistic or entertainment event, followed by a 1'00' of listings of other events happening across the patch.

With the advent of the Cambridge sub-opt the listings were often separate and more local to the East and West sides of the region.

'The Event' was then replaced with 'Page 170' - referring to the CEEFAX page in the local section which contains the listings.

I notice BBC South from Southampton also have a regional 'What's on' type weekly slot - can't remember what it's called - but it is often presented by Mike Bushell (who still also presents the odd News 24 sport bulletin - he used to do them full time)

Although it isn't always on, mainly due to foot and mouth recently plus september 11th, Points West do an 'out and About' show in which this man goes to all these different places you wouldn't think of going. On at the moment.

The west also seem to have quite a few little things that can last a week or two. They had a show on the world war 2, and also on how they make the program. Quite good.

Yep - Look East have had quite a number of 'strands'.

There was 'Schools Out', about things to do in half-term, a few years back.

'A-Z' also pops up every year or so. This is a Look East strand where each film is about a different place in the region starting with letters of the alphabet. They go round all 26 letters - but usually struggle with X and Z!

South Today have always done really nice strand features as well - 'Southern Ways' is a nice little series. Normally each week a reporter makes 5 themed report concentrating on something about the Southampton patch.

Look North have 'What's On' on a Thursday.

Plus there are various other strands from time to time, Rivers with Paul Hudson, Tea rooms with Clare Frisby...?

Don't forget the ol' Commonwealth programme every month as well, set in the other part of the studio, even with it's own astons (generic but with the games logo in the corner)!

Cheers,
