What are the backdrops to the BBC Newsrooms in Wales and the South of England ?

The BBC South shot is of Southampton Smile

North West Tonight / Today from Manchester shows the library and Oxford Street in the background. It is a live shot as 2 weeks ago there was a ' blank ' screen which turned out to be thick fog in Manchester during the bulletin.
This was confirmed by whoever was newsreading at the time.

BBC EAST has a backdrop of Norwich City and BBC EAST MIDLANDS TODAY has a backdrop of the outside of the east midlands newscentre (they have adjusted the camera slightly at the moment due to repare work on the building so you see the building next door at the minute).

Now heres a good one - BBC Midlands Today, which we all know and love as the best region did a very good April Fool last year... they had the window cleaners in! They said 'and we won't be doing any silly april fools jokes this year, so theres no need to watch out... thats all from the Midlands, now it's time to re-join Huw Edwards in London for the news headlines... bye for now'... as the lights went down, this bloke walked into the camera and started cleaning the lens. It worked fantastically and was really funny. It's things like this that make the Midlands the best, i'm sure you'll agree!

Im sure it was funny but Reporting Scotland is much to professional for anything like that though I think it is the best region.

You can see the NorthWest Tonight background here:

Although I think that it's at a slightly different angle to the one used. It usually looks straight down the main road.

You can also see a shot of the studio at

Also, you can see a webcam of the studio at:

I've just had a look and Martin Henfield is on preparing for his bulletin last night! The most activity happens between the North West Today Summary (BBC TWO) and the evening programme North West Tonight.

The image refreshes every 5 mins when there is activity - for example, there hasn't been any activity since 2:00 in the studio.
