Nice map, but don't you think the BBC should change a few of their regional boundaries, I mean you can get Look North in almost East Anglia and Newsroom South East in the southern midlands! The title of each show is a bit of a contradiction if they are serving areas like that.

The regional divisions are far from ideal, but they are based around the coverage areas of the various transmitters, so there is virtually nothing that can be done with it.

There are many anomalies, such as people watching Look North in north Norfolk, South Today going up to the Midlands and so on. The only solution could be provided by digital satellite, where which regional news programme you get would be decided on post code, thereby allowing the possibility to have ideally-sized regions. But this won't happen, as if and when BBC regions arrive on satellite, they will have to match the regional pattern on terrestrial.

We prefer receiving the LOndon news -as although we don't live in london (only in Medway) we consider ourselves londoners - my dad works there, mum born and raised there, i was born in brixton (!!!!) and lived there for a while - as well as visiting every few weeks. besides, london has much more interesting news Smile

Here's my lame attempt to show the alterations to BBC regions in the South and South East. Don't get too hung up about the shapes of the regions - it's only a quick scribble!

A = Old SOUTH EAST region (when it still included Oxfordshire)
B = Old SOUTH region (before Oxfordshire joined it)
C = SOUTH EAST region since Oxfordshire departed
D = SOUTH region since Oxfordshire joined it
E = Forthcoming LONDON region (when Kent departs)
F = Forthcoming SOUTH region (when East Sussex departs)
G = Forthcoming SOUTH EAST region (i.e. Kent and East Sussex)

I think that if the BBC English regions do eventually launch on DSat they will have to follow the BBC Two National model - making all variations available to all viewers in England (effectively allowing the viewer to chose). The double and triple regional border areas would mean that a forced region based on postcode would be unfair. It maybe that channel 101 is a postcode chosen BBC One, with the other regions being made available on other channels (like BBC One / Two nations are currently).

Unlike the BBC One Nations there are no rights payment reasons why all regions shouldn't be made available (BBC Norths Rugby League coverage is the only possible problem - and this is currently on BBC Two, and could probably be blanked selectively by postcode if required...)

It will be interesting to see how ITV launches on DSat - I expect the regional model may be similar. There are rumours of a new menu being added to the Sky EPG to allow selection of regional services, as 16 ITVs would take a lot of channel numbers... Who knows...

Something like this would do fine Smile

That's really cool! How'd u draw that then?

It's also a damn good idea (somebody suggest it to ITV/Sky)!

Asa did that a while ago-changes today would be an ITV1 logo and the background under the 'ITV regions' has changed to solid dark blue.
