I'm in touch with a Director at Bloomberg here in the UK. It seems that they run fully crewed most of the time, even camera bods!

You're not kidding me.

Best way in Katherine, trust me here, write to the BBC local radio station and ask to help.

You may have to work for free, or penuts, for a while -- but if you're good enough, they'll give you paid work eventually.

Write a begging letter (don't e-mail them!) ... you're bound to get a response if you offer yourself (!) for free.

I'm certainly not joking, I deff. want to work in regional television/radio in some capacity or another. I'm fascinated by it.

Drop a letter to those nice people at BBC Radio Humberside then. There's plenty going on there, including the broadband trials and stuff.

Mind you, having been there, they've got a funny little building in the middle of Hull.

Had quite a nice drunken night out there too, whilst looking at the broadband stuff (not at the same time, I hasten to add)

Bloomberg is great, seriously undervalued too. Gordon Brown gives speeches from the Bloomberg HQ in The City.

They have god knows how many staff working there, there are tonnes of them, like a bloody ant colony. They have something like 90 newsrooms around the world and I think they are so big that they have a London newsroom seperate from the rest of their HQ. Could be wrong about that.

And their presentation is fab! No-one ever cares whenever I mention Bloomberg presentation, but it's really good.
Have a listen: http://www.davistom.btinternet.co.uk/bloombergweekend.mp3

Nice studio too, all glass panels and enclosed in some sort of jar thing, where people can walk all around the studio, it's sort of in the middle of the newsroom.

Thanks for that, but there's one problem: I live way down in the south of the Belmont-endowed region, don't drive and train connections to Hull make the journey roughly three hours each way. I'll try BBC Radio Lincolnshire and see if I can get any Saturday 'basic assistant' work though. How good are the BBC in employing disabled people?

The BBC are an Equal Ops employer. All their premises are disabled friendly (ramps, large doors, handles in the right place etc)

Because you are disabled should in no way hamper your employment. Good luck Smile

Sorry Techy Peep - sadly not all BBC buildings are yet fully accessible to those with mobility disabilities, especially wheelchair users. Though I think all nertwork production centres are fully accessible, many local and regional buildings aren't... Yet...

However the Beeb is extremely committed to equal opportunities employment.

The Beeb is desperately trying to upgrade the failing buildings where it can - but some are just not possible to upgrade. This is one of the major reasons for a number of BBC property changes. BBC BH Norwich is a listed building, on 5 levels, and only has stairs.
Whilst the studio floor is accessible to wheelchair users, almost nowhere else in the building (newsroom, VT etc) is. This was a major reason for moving the BBC operations, both TV and radio, to the proposed new location of the Norwich Library complex.

That's good, but my disabilities aren't mobility-related. It's good to know that I'll be catered for if I am a successful applicant!
