Do Northampton ever actually play that song on air?!

Yep, every morning when they come on air.

Oh, on a related note, for anyone wanting to hear more of a jingle package then there's talk of having a live web stream for every local radio station soonish...

Glad to hear that Solent haven't dropped the David Arnold package. Sounds really good with a refresh. Do they still have the full up to the hour jingle with all the twee bits? If that's gone then I'll be very disappointed.

Not happy with stations going for this "On FM, AM and Digital Radio" lark - what was wrong with "Across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight...this is BBC Radio Solent...it's your voice/station" - been a long time since I've listened mind. Always seemed like a decent BBC local. Seemed to acheive a nice balance between speech and speciality programming.

Well just heard the 9pm version and they seem have reverted to the "Across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight...this is BBC Radio Solent...it's your station" version

And yes, they have retained the full up to the hour jingle complete with all the twiddly bits. In the interview with David What's-his-name (the composer) it's apparently comprised of more than 100 different music samples and it sound great - the electric guitar works well with the orchestra.

How many stations use the Generic TOTH theme? Also, do any stations apart from Radio Cleveland, Radio Cumbria and Radio Newcastle join up for the news in the evening or on Sundays?

Also - how long has Radio York been using elements of the Old News 24 sounds?

A lot of the BBC local stations use a version of the generic theme, including:
GMR
Radio Gloucestershire
Radio Bristol
Radio Norfolk
Radio WM
Radio Leeds
Radio Lancashire
Radio Devon
BBC Essex
Radio Suffolk

And there are plenty more. There are various different mixes of the theme though, so it's possible for stations to sound slightly different. And, like I said earlier, some stations do their own thing but loosely base their theme on the generic one. Oxford have a short burst of the 7-note jingle, and then their own theme, and Swindon/Wiltshire have a different 7-note jingle. I think Nottingham have a combination of the generic jingle and their own jingle too.

Not sure about how many stations share news bulletins like Newcastle, Cumbria and Cleveland, but I know that some stations have no hourly news at all at certain times.

York, Leeds, Humberside, Sheffield (I think just these 4?) link up from 7pm with the news - I think something similar happens across the Pennines, so I presume it's pretty common...

Although the usual bully reader has been elsewhere on Radio Leeds this week Wink

I was surprised the other night to find that BBC London doesn't have bulletins right through the night.

Which stations link up with with each other ?

As regards the West Midlands, I can tell you most nights, Shropshire, Stoke & Hereford & Worcester are all together, apart from Tuesday nights when each station does it's own sports show, with H&W mixing a jazz prog with their coverage. Fridays, H&W & Shropshire share The Record Collectors, while Stoke does it's own Northern Soul show.

From 9pm(10pm Tuesdays), all 3 take Alex Trellinski from Nottingham.

WM provides the news bulletins, but does it's own thing otherwise. The only other time WM networks is between 6 & 8 on Saturday evenings with 'Network Gold'

Saturdays from 6pm & Sundays from 3pm to closedown/5live, Shrops, Stoke & H&W are all together.

What about other areas?

Except I believe Mon-Thur Southern Counties opts out just before 1 and takes automated through the night.
