Oh, new music on Five Live - well a revamp of the last set....bit more erm, *funkier* i suppose. Prefered the old set personally

New jingles came in on Saturday Night, in line with the new football season. Beautiful imaging as always. Shame about the logo, doesnt look too bad on the updated website, but I expect a complete revamp of the site in time its been the same for years.

Interesting how its gone from 5 Live in 1997, to BBC Radio Five Live/Five Live in 2004, and now they use the number 5 instead of Five again. The logo reminds me of this a bit actualy.

I imagine it'll be when they alter the Radio 3 and Radio 4 logos that there'll be complaints on the Points of View site. Personally I don't see what was wrong with the existing/previous logo, though I guess it's just a case of rebranding.

There's a bit more info on the logo's that is in the in-house mag Ariel this week ...
They were made by design company Fallon.
They produced the new logos and brand toolkits for use on websites, radio channels, tv promos and live events.
They will be updated on the bbc.co.uk/music homepage on 31 Aug with all the old logos being replaced by the Autumn.
This is what has been said about each one :-
Radio 1 - Not much change. It was working well so Fallon tweaked it and set a style for the others
1 Xtra - Follows the Radio 1 ideas : a neat "play" triangle is formed between the 1 and the X
Asian Network - A "significant facelift". The fabric design makes a reference to heritage and works for youth
Radio 2 - A change to "catch up to where Radio 2 is now". Bold and simple, works across programmes
Radio 3 - References to the bass clef, a nod to notation. Fluid design also suggests musical stave
Radio 4 - Quote mark references speech radio. Keeps mature listeners happy but feels contemporary
5 Live - Letters makes way for figures. The number 5 designed to give the network a dynamic feel
5 Live Sports Extra - Previously lacked its own identity. Rebranded in green that people associate with sport
6 Music - Based of the circular shape of vinyl or the (more modern) iPod wheel
BBC 7 - Smiley face for comedy, drama and children's. Circles are animated as bouncing balls.

Check the websites

I notice it's now styled as " 5 live " (lowercase L) rather than "5 Live"... which just looks silly. Very poor effort all round.

That, last time I checked, also applied to the Nazi swastika. Radio 2's logo is ugly, unimaginative and just generally very rubbish.

Really? And which programmes were you thinking that worked across? Hitler's Hits ? Goebbels' Gold ? The Third Reich Request Show ?

Well, it obviously worked in the German general election across posters and leaflets etc, otherwise the Germans would never have let that lunatic anywhere near Berlin.

The new 5Live logo is being used on a BBC Sport Promo at the moment.

They're involved in the new CBBC look aren't they?

Oh no.

All we can hope is that CBBC's revamp isn't quite as abysmal as this.

Ugh. I've just seen it on a cross-channel menu at 7pm into The One Show . It looked like it was copied from a web site and pasted into Powerpoint or Word.
