Simple facility to indicate to viewers (and media freaks like all of us here) that the programme is in house, unlike the scores of third party productions now commissioned.

Serves it's purpose ... well.

The BBC has launched three terrible brands in last few months, BBC Switch, BBC iplayer and now BBC Productions.
And I forgot to mention the Relaunch of BBC Three!

Well for a start it's not "BBC Iplayer", it's BBC iPlayer - and in what way is it bad?

It's just unoriginal and it just sounds rubbish when they I hear it mentioned onair.
Something along the lines of BBC Select would of been much better.

Yes but you wouldn't be able to guess at what BBC Select was would you, it would sound like another TV channel, or even an overnight scrambled TV service Laughing

Those BBC glass blocks would work quite well as a BBC Productions endcap.
Problem I can see with it though, without proper control the animated BBC is going to end up all over the screen, different sizes and separated by altering differening lengths from the copyright date normally at the bottom of the screen from production to production.

Also, is 'Enders the only inhouse prod using this at the mo? I've just seen the end of The One Show - which is live - and it had a static BBC logo on it. I'd have thought if one jumps, they should all jump and use the animated logo.

BBC Select sounds crap - iPlayer sounds fairly good, and the graphical branding is excellent.

iPlayer - Internet Player does sound good. True if the iMac or iPod hadn't have existed, it might never be called that, however who's to guess that iPod wouldn't have been around if 'I, Claudius' hadn't have been invented? There's a small chance! Laughing

Yes - iPlayer is a great brand, proven by its success to date, really. Another advantage is that people can refer to it as simply 'iPlayer' and others know instantly what they are talking about (like 'News 24'). You wouldn't get that with 'Select'.

But I think this has more to do with the service than the name.

It might have been better too.
