A little background, I seem to remember being told that all newly located large businesses used to be volume tested by a GPO team, if they met the threshold according to the test they were allocated unique codes within their Geographic area. I presume similar volume testing was carried out as Post Codes were initially introduced.

I'm assuming that some areas must, with urban expansion, now be running short of codes to allocate though. Presumably with net based comms that relative volumes must be shrinking, I'd assume large organisations are now receiving relatively much less conventional mail that smaller ones are.

Certainly when we relocated one of our offices a week after having moved in Royal Mail advised us that our postcode was being changed by one character (the fifth) so that we had our own postcode - presumably to help Royal Mail sorting.

We have our own postcode for the headquarters of my work which is completely different to what it should be geographically. I believe we collect our mail from the sorting office rather than have Royal Mail deliver it, due to volume.

All the mail for the building I work in comes via this route too, even though we have a different postcode it all gets bundled together at Royal Mail and is sorted by our post room, because a number of departments have moved around and we get a lot of pre-printed return envelopes with old addresses on them.

We have a similar situation at work. We often get people visiting us turning up at the local Royal Mail sorting office when they've put our PO Box postcode into their sat-navs. Wink

BT Sport's postcode is E20 3BS - seemingly the BS refers to Olympic Broadcast Services, the building's original tenants.

Incidentally, someone told me that the reason the Olympic Park got the E20 postcode district was part of City Hall's ill-fated attempts to woo the BBC to move EastEnders there.

Clever in trying to get the postcode to tie in with the buildings use - but surely
E20 1BC (IBC, geddit?) would have been a bit better.

I'd be surprised if the IBC only had one postcode when it was fully operational. 3BS could be a good option for B T S port though when they moved in.

(why does adding a formatting tag also add a space?)

Possibly, E19 would have been the logical choice when they needed a new postcode area.

I'd be surprised if the IBC only had one postcode when it was fully operational.

Why not? I can't imagine there was that much of a demand for a postal service for the various broadcasters based there

I'd expect at a minimum for OBS to want their post to be kept separate from the rights holding broadcasters.

While there probably wasn't that much demand, there was still a lot of people working there which will have generated more than you'd normally expect for a building of it's size..

Post no, but courier equipment deliveries, thousands. However I suspect OBS handled and controlled the
deliveries centrally ?
