Just spotted this on a OU programme on Youtube.

I do recall seeing this ident in the early 90s. Never saw it animate though. I can't be completely certain but my recollection is that this was a still-only spruced up variation of the OU ident & was used when OU continuity originated in NC1 rather than OU Con. I never managed to catch the BBC Two equivalent. The old MOUSE equipment from the mid-80s was still in use until Feb 91, from OU Con as far as I can recall.

In what Sense Wink ?

There not rare in the fact there were use often on BBC1, there even 1991 rebrand version of OU , which is on YT. It is rare that it's never really appeared on online, if that makes since?

What I meant was it was a different variation of the standard idents, but if you want to be extra fussy because I used the wrong words.. Rolling Eyes

More confused now. What standard idents are you on about? Do you mean the normal Cow? or the OU? I thought you were asking if this was rare in never appearing on line? Hence why I used a smiley to reduce the harshness of my enquire? I didn't even know you used wrong words? Confused

No the OU had a gold ident (BBC1), with BBC2 having a blue ident. Just saying never seen the ones I uploaded earlier online. And I do call it 'rare' as it wasn't as often used as the normal OU idents at the time.

My apologies, and thank you for clearing up what was siad.

TV ark does copy of OU

The reason for the confusion is:

I believed that look come in around to use around 89/90 point of time but because it's rare/thin on the ground appearing on line, I was never able to pinpoint dates?

Ie replacing this one in the process: https://youtu.be/NaDEckctm5A?t=1521

I can clear this up for you a bit. The non standard BBC1 OU ident in the first post was a static slide. During the gulf war, there were obviously regular news updates, and so programmes were being moved about. The static slide was used where the announcer had to inform viewers of the changes to programmes.

In one sequence, shown on TV-Ark, it goes from the BBC1 static OU slide, to a slide showing a revised BBC1 programme lineup, which used the standard BBC1 season background at the time, I believe a hallway of a house.

So as mentioned by someone, the OU logo in the static slide was used to inform people of changes. I would imagine the BBC2 version was for the same purpose, and may even have been used during the Gulf War.
