With the new BBC North this week, we've been treated to some new balloons.
That Norfolk one appeared on Monday, never seen as a regional balloon in this region.

Today at lunchtime, the BBC ONE Yorkshire & Lincolnshire balloon, was wait for it.....

Market Smile Smile

This is the first time a 'people' balloon has been used, and the music sounded very unusual over the studio-shot at the start of Look North.

The long Look North end titles were seen at the end too, If the Look North website's RealVideo was ever updated, you'd be able to see it all....!

I believe the good people of the South East get this balloon as well (which actually depicts Kingston-upon-Thames market place). And most regions seem to have a good selection of different balloons. So why are we in the London region still stuck with this one all the time?

BBC ONE South East use 'Carnival' so it's not the first. I think it's the 'newest' regions that get it,which is why you get that.

And I think the East Midlands get new ones too.

WHILE WE HAVE NO REGIONAL BBC TWO IDENTS,AND 1 BALOON! GRRR,WHERE'S MY SHOTGUN???????????

Don't worry-BBC ONe Midlands only use 1 ident (Irish 3) now too! But they have regional BBC Two idents....

Now where did I put that dang blasted shotgun.

There is a very good reason why we don't see regional BBC2 idents in the London region any more - and that's because Metropol and First Sight can be seen right across England on the digital version of BBC2.  It wouldn't go down too well with viewers outside the London area to see these programmes introduced with an ident which says '|B|B|C| TWO London'.

The last time I saw a BBC2 South East ident - was back in July when Newsroom South East was shifted off BBC1 due to Wimbledon.

'Copper cut-out' used to be the most commonly seen.

Incidentally, now the new South East region joins up with the South region for Southern Eye on Thursday evenings, is it preceded by an ident stating BBC TWO South, a BBC TWO South East, or just plain BBC TWO?

Wth was this? I just saw a network one saying 'Time for some regional news now on BBC Two'?!?!?!?
I have a recording though of a BBC Two South East ident from Late 2000-Optic.

I recorded that ident at 6.30pm on Friday 6th July 2001. The annoucement was simply 'Now on BBC2, the news in London and the South East'.
