Is anyone else really annoyed with the current BBC ONE and TWO idents - we, after years of watching the hot-air balloon and the spinning world, are now forced to have those annoying rugby players and dancers just before a programme begins.
Plus, don't you think that the current TWO idents are just a cheap immitation of the ones seen from 1991-2001???
Yes, the shape of the '1', as in the opening of that can or the weather vane or the new year lanterns of '97 that can be seen on TV Ark under BBC1 continuity.
Wales has two new St Davids Day idents today on BBC ONE Wales. One features school kids and the other features a welsh flag falling from the roof of the Millenium Stadium.
I voted no for these reasons:
1. They are not tacky, they have a piece of great music to each one, most are filmed beautifully with great locations.
2. They look great, in almost all of the idents the action reflects what the music is showing at that time.
3. It's only an ident, creating a new set would waste the license payers' money - yet it is in some cases people wanting to scrap the license fee want a new set of idents.
4. I'll repeat it again, it's just an ident. You see it for about 30 seconds before a programme starts - if you don't want to see it cover up your ears and close your eyes.
I like the idents. The balloon, although I didn't really watch it that much, appears boring from the clips I've seen and has a poor theme tune. I have to admit the BBC ONE Balloon was too nineties and wouldn't withstand the new millennium.
I think the current set are excellent, they have a catchy theme tune and the dancers' skills are quite beyond what most people can do and therefore I appreciate them.
The BBC TWO has also been updated into the modern age into a style that is current. This continues a popular theme but modernised them in a brilliant way that some people I know have described as 'delightful'.
The only thing that I don't like about it is the occasional inappropiate use of an ident - the worst case being when BBC ONE has a rugby programme on and fails to use the Haka ident which is of rugby players. Surely they should look, and plan, ahead which idents to use?
