has a sense of nostalgia suddenly engulfed bbc broadcast? ever since christmas they've been doing some decent closedowns, rather than the p*ss poor "this is bbc one handing over to bbc news 24" tripe

tonight dean on bbc one ended with

"well, after a mini capoera and a view of the capital bringing us to the end of sunday night here on bbc one, so on behalf of the late team here at the bbc television centre in london, this is dean lyddiot wishing you a pleasant rest of the night. breakfast is on the air at six, but until then the latest through the early hours now direct from bbc news 24"

and a little later, the announcer on 2 ended with a lengthy announcement about the first 2 tracks which were played during ceefax in memory of somebody famous [excuse my ignorance, i could only half listen at the time]

lets hope they continue to put this much effort in!

Well, in my usual Sunday night state of insomnia, I was having a last flick through the channels before bed and the music accompanying Ceefax In Vision was AWFULLY familiar, but ESPECIALLY the last piece upto BBC Learning Zone.

Was the last piece "Bart", per chance, perhaps the most famous of all, in full, too, and timed to finish EXACTLY on time.

The BBC Network Continuity people are moving, aren't they?

So that'll be why the symbol went on forever after the Wales anno woman [the one who doesn't sound like Desmond Tutu] had finished doing her rubbish short anno.

It's either that or they use the old yellow N24 thingyo since Cardiff still don't seem to be provided with the new silver one.

Some local CDs do put the effort in though -- mind you I demand the return of late night drunken local headlines.

For the record then, it was Matthew Jackson on BBC-2 who closed down the Network last night with this announcement: -
"And that's it from BBC-2 for the moment. Don't forget BBC Learning Zone opens at Two. For now though, the first two pieces of music to accompany our Ceefax Pages tonight bring back the fondest of memories of one of THE great radio broadcasters and one of my heroes, the great John Dunn, who died in November last year.
Radio 2 will pay tribute to him later this month.
But tonight here's our final thought for John".
1.40.16 Central Park Parade (Syd Dale)
1.42.28 Imogene (Les Reed)
1.45.07 From A Sidewalk Cafe (Frank Mills)
1.48.48 I Love NYE (From "About The Boy")
1.52.20 Harbour Island (Funtastik Track)
1.54.23 Bart (Ruby/Oda) till 1.59.43

Most (of the staff and the output) have already moved.

And yet they still claim to come from Television Centre... mind you, I don't know what sounds better "from TV Centre in London" or "from the BBC Media Centre in London"....

Aren't BBC One or Two still from TV Centre - with the other BBC channels (Three/CBBC, Four/CBeebies, World and Prime) having moved already?

Not sure about UKTV - suspect they'll be the last to leave TVC as transmission mistakes on that output would cost money in lost advertising potentially?

BBC Two is now from the Broadcast Centre 24/7, although TVC is still running as back up.

You're assuming there that people are lying. No one has.

The new facility is the Broadcast Centre.

Could someone tell me if the national anthem was used with the balloons on BBC1 at closedown in October 1997, before the launch of BBC News 24? I know it was played with the "1" globe from 1991.

Indeed it was, The TV Room have a clip of it. Only for a month, though, as BBC News 24 launched in November.
