Sounds like it was probably chaos in the gallery, as they realised they were early and closing the mics got overlooked.

They didn't cut the sound at the end of SET either as over the closing music you could hear Kaye's footsteps as she walked towards the desk, followed by her and Lynda talking, although I couldn't hear clearly what they were saying.

This is actually quite common on the short bulletins lately. Today Lynda Hardy asked Kaye Forster if she had "tried the little ones" I think.

I'm sure someone will be able to confirm it, but I'm pretty sure that the News Channel is the sustaining output for most, if not all of the opts.

yup, that's right. It's the case for the main bulletins, but not the shorter ones. I don't know if it's directly related to BBC One HD, but certainly started at around the same time - last November, I think.

It's also got the added benefit that if a region fails to opt, they don't get irrelevant London news - the nations, in particular, are keen on this change.

There's also a 30 second weather update on the sustaining feed during the regional part of the 8pm bulletin.

(if, say, a region's studio was working, but their presenter didn't turn up, they could arrange for a neighbouring region to be fed down the line and opt with that instead - and something similar can be done in the coding & mux domain)

So there is a 30 second weather update produced each evening which no one ever gets to see? Wait until The Daily Mail hears about this.

If you're watching BBC One HD, you get to see it.

I watch it sometimes! Smile

(I've not checked, but I suspect it goes out on the HD channel too)

Yes, they decided that 30 seconds of the slide saying turn over to 101/1 to watch your regional news was a bit pointless considering it would be nearly finished by the time you turn over and instead replaced it with a weather update. Makes more sense.

No, BBC 1 HD viewers see it.

If the Daily Mail want to seize on a genuine waste of licence payer's money, it would have been all the regional news staff that dragged themselves out of bed early this morning, and went to work, to have nothing broadcast.
