For the record:-

1. This was after the BBC made all its national and regional variations freely available, and unencrypted, on Sky.
2. Following the end of the previous programme the GAA coverage started, and was then encrypted.

Either point 1 is wrong, or point 2 is wrong. They cannot both be correct.

Really?

Indeed. How can a programme on BBC TWO NI have been encrypted after the BBC stopped using encryption?

Well, I repeat, I selected the BBC NI Channel (whether BBC1 or 2) and when the previous programme finished the signal was then blocked and the caption came on that the programme was not available.

I'm sorry you seem to have trouble believing this happened.

Surely you can understand that a BBC channel was not encrypted after the BBC stopped using encryption?

What you saw was a message, created by your Sky digibox, which indicated that the channel you were watching was not available in that postcode area at the time. This means the event you refer to was BEFORE the BBC went free-to-air. After the BBC went free-to-air, network programming was transmitted on satellite while analogue and Freeview viewers received coverage of the GAA. A caption was occasionally overlaid on this for a few seconds at a time telling people to retune to analogue.

"Sigh". I give up. You win. Spot on, once again, it didn't happen.

The same used to happen on BBC 2 NI digital when the BBC used to have the rights for Gaelic football in The North of Ireland.

I also should have added that BBC2 NI Digital wouold just end up showing what ever the rest of the BBC2 showed which was usuallu Sunday Grandstand.
