No, it didn't.
Er, yes it did.
I assure you, it did not.
Well I knew you were a clever cloggs from other posts, but to be able to view GAA on BBC NI on a Sky dish in the UK certainly takes some beating.

The same used to happen on BBC 2 NI digital when the BBC used to have the rights for Gaelic football in The North of Ireland.

Ah...... but Marksi didn't actually say they were showing it on BBC2 NI DSAT, he simply pointed out they weren't showing a holding slide.........
MA
Precisely.
BBC NI has always provided alternative programming on the satellite service when there has been a rights issue. There are no longer rights problems for an individual platform so this situation should not arise again.

Well I'm sorry to have to argue with someone clearly used to being always right, but I can recall trying to watch the final of the Gaelic Football on BBC1 Northern Ireland to be told by a caption that this programme was not available. No alternative programming was provided.
But then, what do I know? Perhaps I imagined it.

Was the caption produced by your Sky box (blue rectangle with yellow header)? IIRC, BBC channels were encrypted until relatively recently, and were set up so that you could only receive the BBC One/Two service for your nation (minus English regional programming).

This was the case, and was before the BBC went free-to-air. At that time the encryption could be changed so that BBC TWO NI was restricted to the areas that the rights had been bought for.
It would clearly have been nonsensical to provide alternative programming on satellite when it would have meant that viewers of that platform within NI would not have been able to watch the coverage of GAA.
BBC TWO NI, not BBC ONE NI. And I'm happy to argue points when I know I'm right!

Either point 1 is wrong, or point 2 is wrong. They cannot both be correct.

For the record:-
1. This was after the BBC made all its national and regional variations freely available, and unencrypted, on Sky.
2. Following the end of the previous programme the GAA coverage started, and was then encrypted.
