It's not the first time it's happened - it happened back in April on BBC Wales - and I remember vaguely reading on a website somewhere about an announcer putting up the station symbol and announcing "This is BBC 1" on BBC 2 or vice versa some years ago - can't remember who it was though.

That must be the one I was thinking of - I'm sure I remember Chris Moyles or Scott Mills playing out the wrong announcement on the wrong channel in one of the nations, so it must have been Wales.
In terms of BBC Scotland's continuity, it's about time they started justifying their position. Wales and NI have proved this with their reaction to the England results, Wales' reaction to Doctor Who, and a bit of invention. BBC Scotland seem constantly happy to just re-read what the network send them - which isn't enough to justify their position. I'm quite sure people in Scotland could cope with network announcements from London - they get them in all their satellite channels after all. If Scotland can demonstrate something distinctive and different, then I'll be happy to see them survive. Otherwise, they'll go the same way as annoucements for "BBC Widescreen"...
EDIT: Actually it was BBC Scotland again. Scott Mills had been watching River City (a running joke on the show) on Sky and noticed the wrong announcement on the wrong channel, and played it out the next day.

I was having that same thought. After some extensive web searching
