BBC One regional variations this evening.

The One Show on at 18:35 in some regions but not until 19:00 in others. (August 2011)

Must have been a last minute thing. I agree it would have been easier to just have 5 minute bulletin on all regions.

Might have been easier - but imagine management will have wanted to show that support for the strike was slipping (BBC management and NUJ seem to have been arguing all day about the effect of the strike compared to the last one) - that four regions could broadcast 'as normal' could be seen to help management's case.

I like to think that South East Today got someone to watch The One Show so they knew what they were talking about and then link into it

Mind you it's no different to what I've seen on visits to the US, when the local affiliate has opted out of the network, and crashes back in.

"...and now back to XYZ that's already in progress....."

I wouldn't be surprised if the regions who opted out were given the running order of TOS which gave them some idea when to return to network.

I normally SKY Plus the teatime Midlands Today, in case I miss it.

Did anyone else's recording last 60 minutes, taping both the short regional bulletin & The One Show, without asking for it?

I did notice on Sky that the BBC News at Six 'ran' until The One Show ended.

East Midlands did exactly the same as Yorkshire, with the same trails etc and same ident and announcement.

My guess is that that sequence was sent to the regions from London and played out locally - it can't have been on the sustaining feed, and I can't imagine they would have gone to the trouble of setting up a separate feed.

Incidentally Newcastle didn't manage to get a programme out, and took Hull's 5 minutes.

I would be very surprised if that was the case

The extended One Show is an interesting precedent, the presenters, crew and some of the contributors won't be NUJ members but I wonder how many of the production team are and whether that caused any problems producing what was essentially a strike-breaking programme? That might have been an issue as to why some regions didn't hand back as smoothly as others

But that would have been very unfair on viewers in those regions who were able to have more than 5 minutes of news. The regional news is far more important than The One Show

Hull's 5 minutes.

I'm slightly surprised Hull only managed to do 5 minutes. Peter Levy was in, there was a lunchtime report from Vicky Johnson that I'm fairly certain wasn't recorded last week, and in the past strikes Tim Iredale and Paul Murphy have worked. I guess there was a lot of 'off-air' staff striking?

Or done a joint programme with Leeds, double headed with Christa in Leeds and Peter in Hull like the NC/World do overnight with Singapore and London.

It would have been much easier to start The One Show at 7pm and run a filler at 6:35pm like they have done on all previous occasions.

The regions (or region) who did neither 5 mins or 30 mins could have filled themselves with either trailers or some sort of long report either from a previous edition of the news or from a previous edition of Inside Out.

Not quite such a victory for the BBC though is it?
