OK, I know the new look for BBC One has been around for a while, but I only noticed the other day (and again tonight) that they haven't bothered editing the trail for The Politics Show - as the message written in the dirt on the back of the ambulance is now half obscured by the BBC One logo - so it reads "Is the ward ner?"...
It's a bit sloppy if you ask me. It's like the vital small print on adverts being covered up by channels DOGs.
Inside Out, here in the Midlands, is still using the shutters!
A few weeks on and they are still making a mess of the relaunch by talking all over the top of the idents and fading the music down so it can hardly be heard

Yep, some insist of effectively cutting the sound, waiting a second then speaking which is probably the worst combination! Best example of what I've seen recently was last night. Long version of Bikes, anno talking after a few seconds of the logo forming up and then a long slow fade in the Jonathan Ross titles.
I've been thinking about my ident idea about a roundabout and how to direct it well...
Start :
Irate driver on his phone waiting to go into the roundabout stuck behind 3 cars beeping his horn in time to the theme tune
Middle:
Driver gets onto the roundabout and missed every turn for about 8seconds still beeping in time with the music
Top-Down picture of the roundabout zooming out showing his car (black) and all the other cars (red) with the logo and finishing with him getting off the roundabout the music becomes more tranquil as he is relieved
Also this would be filmed many time with many drivers at diffenent times of the day eg Sunrise-Breakfast mid-day- News/cbbc getting darker -news/eastenders and for the night-time one the traffic lights and street lamps would flash red

I think that the announcers have got used to the new length etc. though.

I like the idea of using a traffic island somehow, however the way you are proposing to do it sounds awful - the last thing I want to see on TV when I get home from work is a repeat of the increasingly shocking and irresponsible driving that I encounter almost everyday. Why anyone needs to use a 'phone whilst driving is beyond me, they're pathetic.
I'm sure there's a far more elegant and less arrogant way of producing a traffic island ident! The last part of your suggestion sounds best - this could actually form the whole ident - a "rush-hour" on the island, filmed at this time of year where over an hour it starts off light and as it gets darker the traffic builds up and there are swirls of headlamps - a bit like on Newsnight's titles! The light - dark would obviously be speeded up!

Directors seem to like the long slow fade into Ross' titles - last Christmas as an example was faded beautifully from the Shiny Balls ident. Looked very very nice.
Anywhoo well you could have just a camera over a roundabout filming 5am to 10pm sped up and it would look like bikes sort of and it could be cut into at dofferent points eg 12pm for linch
