I thought the Panorama slide shown after the news was impressive. They made good use of the Panorama sphere by having the white circle run around the edge.
I despise saying cliches like "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but it is actually true.
I apply that phrase not to the 'spherical' idea, but instead to the globe and the 1990's style of BBC '2s'. They both got scrapped when they had much more left in them, and the identity is worse off for it.
I must be the only person to like Kites as an ident, plus it probably has the best music out of all the lot. But overall I think they're all great and a hundred times better than what we used to have.

You are not alone - KITES is fab! Good music and feels like quite an serious yet fun ident..
They either haven't cottoned on to the fact that with long form-ups they need to use these idents differently to the old ones, or they have cottoned on but don't give a monkey's. Channel 4 got this absolutely right and adapted their announcing style to suit their new idents - BBC One, with a sad predictability, haven't.
There are bound to be teething problems at first, after all, no previous idents have had this long an intro. Sometimes these intros are handy to fill airtime (as I've mentioned before), other times they are less appropriate but the different annos seem to be using their own judgement on when to come in.
It's worth remembering that when BBC1 first had a "formup" ident (Christmas 1987), the announcers were so used to talking straight over the globe some forgot they had to wait until after the animation before speaking. Very often the ident followed a slide which they would have been talking over.
What we're currently seeing is a learning curve for all involved; each new look presents its own challenges and things are bound to settle down.
Well, if they're going to conduct a rebrand, you'd think they'd actually pracise or maybe inform the annos/put out some sort of guidelines - because cutting short the ident before the logo appears is pretty darn poor!
Channel 4 had no such problems, it's just sloppy work or maybe even carelessness, but I'm surprised that they didn't consider this problem when commissioning/reviewing the package. To say "they're just getting used to it" doesn't really cut it.
I am also particularly fond of Kites, at least the long version anyway, as I find it quite an interesting ident with a nice soundtrack, though the cut on the short version is poor. I also like Surfers, which I think is another well shot ident with a strong soundtrack though the lack of logo at the end does lose some of its appeal.
I'm afraid to say I'm bored of Hippos now as their quirkiness has gone, which IMO made it a good ident. I'm also not fond of Moon as I find it a bit too dull.
I have to agree with the other poster's comments on the announcers appearing to lose interest - today alone I've seen idents cut off before the symbol has even formed and music dipped down so low after a few seconds that it is impossible to hear anything?
Anyone know which announcers were on network BBC One today?
So a week in and we've already seen the breakdown caption! Was it accompanied by any music, like the last one used the daytime coming up menu music, or was it silent?

Oh I should have said it only lasted about 5 seconds, so no music! It simply cut in on Bill Turnbull and then was off again in a jiffy... but I think that may have been its first outing!
Not surprising Hippos is topping the poll; their appeal is across the board. Children will like them and likewise their parents - it's the "cute" factor I suppose.
Mind you, others mightn't like seeing the mother-in-law between programmes...
